I'm awaiting a bugfix which was done in December, but there hasn't been a new release in 5 months. Any idea when the next one comes out? Or is there a beta one I can get somewhere? Are you talking about for Windows or Android? For Windows/Mac/Linux you can get the source code from the latest testing branch and compile it yourself from here. This is what I do fairly regularly. |

David Anderson was asked exactly that question during the BOINC Projects Call on 14 January 2022. Minutes and a recording of that call can be found at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1_YDPZi5OQ10nU91QwICGCKaP7vJTS_N4 David's answer was that a new release would be made in 'around 2 months'. It will not have escaped your notice that more than two months have elapsed since that statement. There is no sign of even any preparatory work having been started. |

I'd prefer to see the scientific community applying collective pressure on David to get off his butt, and stop playing 'the dog in the manger'. We should all be getting the benefit of a new release, not just those of us who can self-compile. |

What about those nightly builds? Are they still done? I always forget where these artifacts are. Once found for a hot second I immediately forget how I got there. |

Well if the non-released ones can be compiled, I'd be happy to try one, and accept it might not work right. But I have no idea how to compile things. If someone can email me it at xxx@xxx.plus.com I'd be greatful. Instructions for building from source from nightly builds are On Linux I have found, more libraries need to be installed than listed in the instructions. I think the instructions work better in Windows but Richard would know better than I about that. On Linux having done it a few times on a fresh install, I don't find it too difficult to track everything down from the error messages now. First time was a pain in the proverbial! |

I thought it was just a matter of running a compiler (which I don't have installed). In any case, if someone has done this for windows, can't they just email me the produced executable?s for windows, can't they just email me the produced executable?
Don't know about windows. (It is over 20 years since I defenestrated.) In Linux if some of the libraries it is compiled against don't match the ones installed on the computer it can mess things up. (Happened to me once that after a version upgrade the manager wouldn't run and I ended up doing a clean install of the OS before I got it going again. You may be right that with Windows you just have to click a button but it is too long since I used it for me to say for certain. |

What about those nightly builds? Are they still done?I've just received an email from Vitalii, asking me to test his solution to a bug I reported some time ago. He's given me a download link for the version with this specific (Manager) patch: https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/suites/5591557712/artifacts/181337362 But that turns out to be exactly that - a single-file download. I'll try to find the more general page where you can choose which components you want to download. Be aware that all test builds only comprise the raw component files - boinc.exe / boinccmd.exe / boincmgr.exe. There's no installer - only David can build that (UCB licence and code-signing key required). |

That zip contains the manager and the tray programs, but not the command or the main executable. Can't you just email me the ones you've compiled?I have the tools to compile, but I don't do it regularly - I prefer to run the 'release' versions, so I can watch and reproduce the bugs that other people report. And report a few of my own... I've just been looking for other downloadable artifacts, but I think the system has changed yet again - I can't find any. So it's not just Jord's memory. I'll try and download a fresh copy of the source 'as is' today, and build from that - it'll take a while. Do I have your email address? |

Ugh. Don't hold your breath. I've got the source, but I've also got a huge number of errors when I try to compile it. Seems VS2019 is no longer the version I downloaded, so I'm downloading 1.28 GB of files in 457 packages to update it. I think I'll go and make myself a cup of coffee while it sorts itself out. |

Bran flakes? Oh, that kind of fibre - I've got 70 Mbit. Downloading is not a problem - it's the complexity of Microsoft's packaging, uninstalling expired versions and replacing them with new ones that takes the time. |
