I currently have 3 old Android phones with BOINC installed and constantly running. I've joined the World Community Grid - All phones are constanly on charge and dedicated to only running BOINC. It's allowed me to achieve a high number of results returned and a very high runtime.

One of the Android phones is an Android 11 and I've found an unusual issue related to a feature that is meant to preserve battery life on the Pixel phone.

If the phone has been on charge for 4 days or more then Android automatically limits the charging to preserve the battery life of the Pixel device.

Android will keep the battery charged at 80%. Unfortunately, this stops BOINC since the app will only run projects when the battery has a charge of 90% and above. Unlike my Android 10 or older phones, I will need to manually resume charging on the phone or remember to unplug / plug in the phone every 4 days to keep the phone from discharging down to 80% and staying there.

This is obviously not an issue for the casual BOINC user but for someone running a mini Android device farm, it's a problem.

I don't believe there is a way to turn off this feature on a Pixel device. One suggestion is for BOINC to ignore that a phone is at 80% if it is plugged in and just continue working away on a project. Any other ideas?

You can set in the preferences how much the battery must be charged as far as I know. Just show the advanced options menu. The battery option has a slider.

And if not yet updated, do update to https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_7.18.1.apk (only available from the BOINC website)

Thank you! I totally didn't think to look for a setting like that. My fourth Android device will now run BOINC seamlessly and it will contribute more results to World Community Grid.
