BOINC version 7.16.19
macOS Monterey version 12.1
Project involved is World Community Grid Mapping Cancer Markers 7.61

I have only 1 project loaded on this particular computer running boinc. I noticed the other day that the tasks were not really running, but there are no errors. When I open the boinc manager I see 4 tasks and they start running, but if I move to another window and then go back I see that the elapsed time for work on the tasks has gone backwards......so I let it run for 40 seconds or so, then go to another window, and when I return it it's back to 25 seconds or so, elapsed for the same task. The tasks are not completing and they are being aborted because they are past the deadline. I have the computing preferences set to match a windows () implementation that works without any issues for the same project and application. I've not really tried much to remedy the situation because I have no idea what the problem is.

Here is the log:

What else do you have running on your computer. Changing the setting for the amount of work your computer can have other tasks doing before it suspends BOINC work may help. I suggest unticking the suspend when non-boinc cpu usage is above n%. You can always go back and try it with a higher figure than 25% if your computer takes too big a hit for whatever else you are running.

Thanks for the recommendations. I get the same result with all my other programs closed and the cpu at 5-10% usage according to the activity monitor. I've also tried adjusting the computing preferences to allow 75% usage and there is no change in the behavior. The tasks run for less than 1 minute before they just stop, reset to zero and begin again.

I now sit back and wait for a real expert - I have never used a Mac and haven't used Windows on my own machine for over 20 years. I wonder if it is something specific to MacOS?

Hello everyone.
I have the same problem as librarian43215 described. Less than month ago I migrated from Win machine to a brand new Mac Book Air 13" (M1, 8GB, Monterey 12.0.1).
The problem happens only for Mapping Cancer Markers subproject. In my case tasks are restarted after about 1 min. and 40 sec. (I intentionally set 12.5% of processors and max. 50% load of them). Other projects like Africa Rainfall, Milkyway @ Home or Einstein @ Home works without any problems.
I never had such situations in Windows (I started contribution on 2009). I'm faced this just after running BOINC on Mac. I had proper newest and stable client (7.16.19 for M1 processors). Currently I stopped getting tasks for Mapping Cancer Markers because it has no longer sense till the problem will be solved.
Any suggestions will be helpful.

The general for the situation when an application (task) is only running part way through then failing or timing out is to look a the project's forum. Most of these events are actually down to either an issue with the data being processed or the application running, both of which are distributed by the project and are outside the control of BOINC (the project)

Thank you very much for hint. I checked and found this https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,43842 thread. It seems that I have to wait with this subproject till it will be fixed. It may be strongly linked with the specific OS version but the person noticed that similar behavior was firstly observerd for MCM on Windows.
