Good day, everyone at BOINC and across the globe.
BOINC version: 7.16.11 (x64)

Issue: I'd like to have BOINC run 24-7, but either Windows 10 Home (64-bit)
or BOINC itself allows it to apparently become dormant. During the day I hear
the fans going like thery're working hard, but when I get up in the morning,
the fans are barely audible. I have to hit escape and sign in, then
the fans spin up like they were running before I slept.
The laptop (an Asus ROG Zephyrus M15, Intel Core i7

This issue occurs no matter which projects I run, either one or all the
ones I have in the BOINC manager.

I've set Win 10 to not sleep or turn off the monitor when plugged in,
and I've turned off the screen saver (set it to wait 600 minutes, and
the checkbox to 'on resume display logon screen is NOT checked.

Power plan is set to performance, will not turn off the display or
put the computer to sleep while plugged in.

I have 3 separate projects and recently, Science United running,
although I've been getting a LOT of 'Computation errors' on
Einstein@Home, MilkyWay@Home, and Amicable Numbers.
There are a couple of each of those running normally, currently,
and some 'Ready to start' and 'Waiting to run.


BOINC Settings:

Use at most 50% of cpus

Use at most 50% of cpu time

Suspend when computer is on battery

Suspend when non-BOINC CPU usage is above 25%

Network: no limits

Disk

Use no more than 5G

Leave at least 0.5 GB free

Use no more than 30% of total.

Memory:

when computer is in use, use at most: 25%

when computer is not in use, use at most 50%

Checked leave non-GPU tasks in memory while suspended

Page/swap file: use at most: 50%

Daily schedule: no entries

CPU: Intel Core i7
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q and Intel UHD Graphics

I have to hit escape and sign in

That means that your Windows went to sleep or hibernate after all. And the only way to run work then is to install BOINC as a service, but then it will run on CPU only as the GPU won't be available when it's a service as the videocard drivers run in another account than the one BOINC runs with.

Here's the crux, there's a separate option in the Power options that will put your computer to sleep or hibernate even though you set the computer to never go to sleep. Some of this depends on the version of Windows 10 you have as well as they sure like to move menu items around a lot, or disable them all together.

In Windows type Power in search, choose the Power & Sleep Settings.
Click Additional power settings on the right.
On the Customize a power plan window click Change plan settings next to the option you have selected.
In the Advanced Settings window that opens click on Sleep, then on Hibernate and set it to Never.

If you see different options, follow this guide.
Windows 10 will by default always go to sleep mode when you try to shut it down. By disabling sleep, Windows will finally shut down when you choose that option.

Another possibility is Win10 auto-updates.
Check if PC reboots over night.
If it rebooted it will boot to logon screen only, and in default BOINc config it will not be loaded to that point. Hence no work processing.

In this case either configure PC for auto-logon (boot to desktop, not logon screen) or disable Windows auto-updates (I personally would recommend second path cause with auto-updates sooner or later PC will end unable to boot at all ...)
