BOINC Version : 7.16.11 (x64)
Windows 10 (x64)
The projects I am running are GPUGRID, LHC@home, Rosetta@home and World Community Grid.
Event Log at end of post.

Hey,

When I run BOINC, a few seconds after it begins to process tasks the computer crashes/reboots with no BSOD or any other warnings.

I posted a while ago on the forums and got no reply, I was chasing the same problem but thought it was linked to some items in event viewer that were apparently red herrings.

I have updated all my drivers, reinstalled BOINC several times, checked the health of my memory and processor, checked the running temps of the processor (all normal when the computer crashes/restarts) but still seem to be no closer to finding the problem.

Anyone know what else I should be looking at or how else to diagnose. Haven't been able to run BOINC for a few months now.

Cheers,

Sam

First thought is thermal cut-out.

Boinc stresses the cooling like little else. Try install a hardware logger and look at the log of the CPU temperature for the time of the reboot.

I already did this using the Core Temp program I found a link to in this forum. The temp never went over 50 C which didn't seem like it should be too hot to me. and is the same as I get when running some games on my PC which have never caused a crash.

Ok, once you’ve got rid of the very overdue Rosetta tasks, what other tasks are running?

hard cut/reboot sounds more like a power supply issue to me. GPUGRID is out of work now, so your system shouldn't be trying to process anything but CPU tasks, and your CPU isn't exactly a powerhouse, but if the PSU is defective it could be tripping OCP erroneously.

what PSU are you running? what are the rated specs and roughly how old is it?

I have an EVGA NEX750 B its about 5 years old (750W obv).

I thought it likely wasn't the power supply as I haven't had any issues running Adobe, or playing games while streaming and various other tasks.

Ok, so I feel a bit stupid, but not sure why this was causing BOINC to crash. I Aborted all the active tasks (though this would happen upon reinstall) and BOINC seems to be running ok with new tasks. Will leave it running a few hours and post again.

All seems to be fine after removing the old Tasks. I guess I should have taken note of what they were before removing them...
