I upgraded my Linux to Linux Mint 20 Ulyana base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal, and that install went smoothly; but on reboot BOINC wouldn't start automatically. So I uninstalled and reinstalled BOINC hoping that would solve it - well it did, kind of. The program now launches on reboot but won't connect (shows "disconnected" at bottom).

If I close that instance and launch manually via the desktop icon everything works fine. In my Startup Applications BOINC Manager is listed twice, one with a 10 second delay. I have tried selecting just one and disabling the other but no changes to the program initialization issue.

Also, when it loaded on boot I used to have an icon in my try on the bottom right (next to the date/time) and that has disappeared as well.

I'm not an expert Linux user, so if you reply with solutions please include the command line entry (sudo or whatever), if necessary...

Thank you in advance...

The lack of the icon in the tray is probably due to BOINC itself being upgraded. In their wisdom the developers decided to get rid of that along with some other changes.
