I'm considering redirecting my computer's resources to BOINC/Rosetta (I don't understand the difference, between BOINC & Rosetta, but that's another matter), but *if* I've installed it correctly and gotten it running correctly, I've found B/R to be lacking.

Specifically, B/R isn't informative at all about what specifically it's working on, how I adjust it to work on exactly what I want to contribute to, etc.

I could use either some handholding, or to be told that B/R isn't nearly as informative/directable as Folding.

Thank you.

P.S. - as an aside ONLY, the way I understand it, B/R creates the foundational work which Folding then expands upon.

P.P.S. - I can't figure out how to post a screen cap image of Folding's status screen, for those not familiar with it.

You have to upload the image to somewhere and then post the image url with the image tags. Easiest way is to highlight url then click on img button.

BOINC does not itself produce any work but merely a platform to enable work done by various scientific bodies to run their work be that medical, fundamental physics, climate science etc.

For more information about Rosetta you need to look at their own site. The idea is that having installed BOINC You then attach it to whichever project(s) interest you.

Thanks for your reply, Dave.

Okay, then in my humble opinion it's BOINC that isn't informative, in my case to the point that I don't know exactly what I'm contributing to nor feel like I'm helping.

Here's my screen cap posting attempt:

Boinc was I believe started to enable seti@home to send work units out to crunchers. Some projects have at different times come with graphics that give information about what is going on. Climateprediction.net did at one time had graphics that showed how various parameters were changing during the model day. (You could select, Temperature, wind speed, air pressure, precipitation etc. The person who had the skill set and interest in producing graphics for CPDN left the project and they no longer have graphics. How much information is available is down to the project rather than BOINC. CPDN have a link where you can see what scientific papers the user's crunching has contributed to for instance. I agree BOINC doesn't give much information about the projects or what individual tasks are working on but then it was never designed to. It was designed as a program to facilitate others to get their work done. FAH use a program that is only doing their own work which makes showing a lot of information a lot easier.

I don't understand the difference, between BOINC & Rosetta

BOINC is a car.
Rosetta is a box of groceries on the back seat.
ALL projects are boxes of items being carried in the car.

If you want to know what Rosetta is working on, visit their web site.

Fortunately for me, Dave has already answered my questions and concerns, Mr. "Help desk expert", in a well-explained manner, and without the 'go visit their (unlinked and rather lame) website'.

Rosetta does still have graphics (and the screen saver) and their graphics shows what you're working on. Select a task that's running and press the Show graphics option or button. (Depends on if you use simple or advanced view)

The help desk expert title some of us show on the forums we got for helping others with knowledge about BOINC and its projects. It's then easier for new people like yourself to see the advice given is genuine. There's no need to flame the person holding the title.
