I don't think there's a way to do this, but I might have missed it in my searches: is there a way to restrict tasks that use VirtualBox to only run when the PC is not in use, like one can set GPU tasks to only be run when the PC is not in use while letting CPU tasks run always? I ask because even with vboxheadless.exe tasks set to low priority manually, they still cause performance issues while using my PC. I'd like to contribute with VirtualBox if I can, just not while I'm using the PC, and so far from the configuration documentation I read there only seems to be use VB or don't use VB. Is that right, or did I miss something? |

Not in a simple way that wouldn't also stop normal non-VB BOINC work; if that's ok then just set BOINC to run when the computer is idle. Otherwise, I would try lowering the number of threads BOINC can use and see if that helps. For example if BOINC is using 100% of an 8-thread machine, set it to 99% instead. If the VB app is multi-threaded you might be able to limit how many threads it uses and that might help. Check with the project(s) on that, you might need to create an app_config file and you'll need the correct names and settings. Team USA forum Follow us on Twitter Help us #crunchforcures! |

Virtualbox runs on the CPU so you control this through the "Run CPU tasks when in use/not in use" options. |
