The battery in yours just runs the digital display stuff.I have a battery one as well, as was the precious one. The battery powers the display, sure - the old one continuously displayed the temperature on LCD, the newer one can display much more on LED, but only on demand - it's normally blank. But the primary purpose of the batteries is to send the temperature reading to the main controller by radio. |

Sorry guys, even though I understand your posts, should have researched it. Past thermostats were mains powered & mechanical. New digital one is wired but batteries just power the unit. Have noticed a difference though. Old ones were 10 to 30 degrees, new one 5 to 25 degrees. |

Old ones were 10 to 30 degrees, new one 5 to 25 degrees. The only time ours shows the temperature as being above 20 is when the weather is hot enough to make it so or when the woodstove is on in the room next to the hall. I haven't yet worked out a way to control the woodstove remotely but barring the cost of fuel for the chainsaw, Strom Eunice means we have free heating for most of our house heating and for hot water this winter. |

Eric Korpela is looking into it. Eric must have found and fixed the problem. SETI website is working for me. |

Spammy Richard Haselgrove made it out of my spam folder, into my inbox with the following line: "I'm not on Instagram but my friend is, and this is what she found {URL}" My reaction: maybe you should be on Instagram. 😜 |

And did my alleged friend find something interesting to show you on Instagram? Or someone? |

I don't dare follow the URL she sent. Maybe with my VPN on on the other system. :D |

Likewise. I don't dare follow the links that Jacob Klein keeps sending me, even on my best-hardened computer. |

Oh, is he spamming you? Tsk, can't find good people anywhere these days. I wonder whose inbox I keep spamming? |

If my contact list is pilfered, then why am I only getting a fake Richard Haselgrove? Why is Richard only getting a fake Jacob Klein? |

I held my nose and risked a peek. It's one of those 'get rich quick' scams, faked up as a newspaper website story. Yawn. |

If my contact list is pilfered, then why am I only getting a fake Richard Haselgrove? Why is Richard only getting a fake Jacob Klein? Perhaps a mutual friend? A decade or more ago I gave a relative a very a little used email address of mine and within hours of them sending me their first message the spam started. Their machine was the source, had virus. Conflicker? |

My email address was on a list stolen from Yahoo years ago. I was warned by my ISP, and got the password changed pronto - I don't think any real damage was done. These spam messages are noticeable because they're using a 'sender name' that's likely to catch my interest. But the actual email account they're sending from bears no relationship to the spoofed name. |

Do the fake emails appear in yor spam/junk folder or in the regular 'inbox'? Depending on who you email provider is, you should be able to block the fake ones by reporting them as suspected spam/junk. Then after a few times of doing so they might do the right thing and block them altogether. |
