Is that a grumble or a glory?

A little bit of both. Glory for the move, grumble that I have to do much of everything by myself as all the people who said they would help have so far turned me down.

Grumble, I hate intermittent computer failures. On the first I swapped out a GTX1060 for a GTX1660. A day or two later the machine rebooted on it's own and required me to log on to get it back crunching. That behavior continued once a day or so until today. Today it wouldn't stay up for even
20 minutes. Action became mandatory. Since the video card was a recent change I thought it might be the culprit. So I swapped out the card for a GTX660 I have. No joy there. My next try was the power supply since it was over 7 years old and had been on 24/7 for a bit over 7 years. It's been up now for 2 hrs with the GTX1660 and no hiccups so far.
Time will tell if this is glory or not.

Glad that you've managed to move - my neighbour's buyer dropped out the day before completion about a month ago, leaving them with a big choice, either get a bridging loan and move (once such activity is allowed), or pull out of the house they were buying and stay put. After a bit of thought they pulled out of the one they were buying and are staying here, in their current (furloughed) jobs.

It appears glory has arrived, it has been over 22 hrs since I swapped out the power supply and the computer has not crashed. It seems to be it's happy self crunching E@H.

Glory is scheduled to arrive here on Thursday or Friday, too. Not only did I receive a fresh consignment of café cooking today, I also discovered that the Barn is now delivering 5L mini-casks of my preferred beverage locally.

The weekend, as they say, is sorted.

How local is local? - after all in Australian terms I'm only just next door......

Free local delivery is "within 10 mile Radius" - not far on the Australian scale, but close enough for me. Longer distances, they use a commercial carrier and charge you £7.

Apparently it comes in a bib - any translators? I thought a bib was something you might need towards the end of a long session...

OK, I've found my BiB.

Glory: I have moved.
Grumble: My computer room holds all 38 boxes. Don't expect my gaming system to be online yet overnight. My TV server though, that I type this on, works great. Just put its 5.1 sounds system back on and everything works.

Now the bed...

And glory here too - my first casklet of local ale has arrived, and was taken care of by my neighbour while I was out for a walk. A little time in the fridge, I think, and then I'll raise a housewarming toast to Jord's new gaff.

('best before 02 July", it says on the box. Fat chance of it lasting that long!)

I read that as if your neighbor had drunk all while you were out. 🤣

Well, she didn't drink it all - it still feels reassuringly heavy and gluggy. I wouldn't begrudge it if she (or her father) took a wee taste as rent - I might even get a commission discount on my next order if they like it and decide to support local enterprise similarly.

I installed my smart thermostat and it decided it's cold in the house so the heating is on now. That's a housewarming. :)

Glory, the computer with the new power supply has been up 4 days now so I'm pretty sure it is fixed.

Grumble:
Laptop after a while when I try to log back in, goes into some sort of loop. Password correct but doesn't let me log in. I can get around it by going to CLI and killing Xorg after which graphical login works normally again. Waiting to see if problem recurs having done so. Have checked the most common causes of this but none seem to apply. Before realising I could use the CLI to get around this, I was turning off and on again. Getting into the loop sometimes happened on first occasion, sometimes not until about the fifth or sixth time I logged back in.

do you have nvidia drivers installed? and do you have auto-login enabled?

sounds like this problem: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2020/01/login-loop-auto-login-enabled-in-ubuntu-19-10-with-nvidia-driver/

Mind not posting your signature to this thread, and not giving technical help? Plenty of forum outside this thread for both of those.

My system survived the move. It's living on top of the new desk I just put together. Will need a longer DP cable as 5 feet just doesn't cut it. Allekabels.nl here I come. (No spam)

For the record, it was purely a grumble and I have posted on non-BOINC fora for help on this. Also for the record, I don't have autologin enabled or any nvidia drivers.

Maybe I need to explicitly say I am not asking for help when posting grumbles about technical things in this thread because I can see how easy it would be for me to be tempted if I thought I knew the answer.
