God just loves standards - obviously, since She created so many of them. |

Oh yes :-) And there are so many of them we can each have our own set! |

Apple has begun what IBM had years ago, NIH. Or we own the patent or else. |

Glory, but it did not come easily. Yesterday was the day I chose to swap out a GTX1060 for a GTX1660. I thought it would very easy, but not so much. The new card was just enough larger that getting it plugged in properly took 3 attempts and a couple of hours of futzing around. Ah victory I thought. E@H told me I did not have a usable GPU and GPU-Z did not see it. Silly me I thought the old driver would work, not so. I the went to Nvidea told them what card I had and downloaded the driver. I went to install it and was told it was not compatible with my system. I did a more specific search for W8 driver and lo and behold W8 and 7 use a different driver than W10. From there things went as they should. It has been crunching happily for 18hrs now but what I thought should take about an hour took 3 hours. Today, If I am inspired I'll put the GTX1060 into another box as a second 1060. Once again I don't anticipate any difficulties, ha ha ha. |

https://www.howtogeek.com/345504/how-to-open-heic-files-on-windows-or-convert-them-to-jpeg/ No Windows 10 Photos here. Defenestrated in 1999 and haven't gone back since! |

Glory, the 2nd GTX1060 went in the way I hoped it would, the box booted the 1st try and both 1060s are crunching. The whole job took a bit less than an hour. |

Weird. On my 6s running 13.3.1 all images are jpeg by default. |

There's this: Apple’s operating systems will automatically convert the images to JPEG when users want to share them with friends who don’t use Apple products. in this article: What The Heck Is A HEIC File, And How Do I Open It? on Tom's Hardware. In the meantime, I guess, put the files in a shoebox, and keep them until the new format catches on. |

In the meantime, I guess, put the files in a shoebox, and keep them until the new format catches on. My experience of putting pictures in a shoe box is it can be decades before they are looked at again! |

You can't even give ithe RAM away on fleaBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/256MB-PC100-32x64-RAM/303559021070?hash=item46ad87120e:g:sfAAAOSwtZ5esEvc |

Consider putting them into a clear epoxy block, that would make a great table top ornament and conversation piece. |

Or even make a set of paper weights and book ends by encapsulating individually using crystal clear epoxy then selling them at a local craft fayre (if they ever come back). Who knows you could end up with a nice little side line ;-) Edit to add - motherboards might be a bit thick to make into place mats, but..... Sometime located elsewhere in the (un)known Universe But most often found somewhere near the middle of the UK |

This Thursday I will move house, so in the coming days until about next week I'll be only sporadically available. Depends on when I can move all my equipment, my new computer desk isn't coming until Friday - and then I have to assemble it myself. But today I fastened all cable trays onto the baseboards and strung all the Cat7 Ethernet cables through, so that's done. I will probably wait with disassembling my whole network and all until after the move, I'll only move the TV and Quantus 3D soundbar to the other side, perhaps the TV server and NAS as well. Internet depends on when I can get the serviceman to come as I don't have my cable TV/internet/radio/telephone splitter in my new apartment, so my ISP will have to send someone to do that. In the old place I took apart half the bed and the clothing closet, which was a bitch due to a fricking heavy mirror in one of the sliding doors. Almost done. |
