grumble ..

could they be crowdstruck?

Probably. Similar issues with one of my utilities & they had the nerve to charge me a late fee because of it.

Been on auto pay for as long as it's been available (15+ years) and this was the first time payment was "late" but not due to me...

Called talk to a customer service rep on Friday who did not want to reverse the fee. Asked for reason why, she told she "didn't have authority to reverse or change...." Asked for her supervisor, held for few minutes.

Asked supv if he had reviewed the complaint. He replied "yes and I will reverse late fee after you provide me a credit card to make payment in full because we don't have any way to retry an ACH (automated clearing house) payment once it's declined." Provided card to fulfill the payment.

Then was told I had to use their website or a mail in form to "re-subscribe" to the automated payment process because of 1 missed payment. Never any apologies from supv.

The old saying "To really mess things up requires a computer" is true.

Not sure that condition enforcing interest payment because of their own incompetence etc would be enforceable in UK.

They are a third party payment processor, so I'd expect so.

David changed it a couple of days ago, in response to a single request from a user with no support and no discussion.

https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/pull/5735
https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/4614

And he has not added a forum preference to turn it off again.

David changed it a couple of days ago, in response to a single request from a user with no support and no discussion.
And the request, judging by the picture icon accompanying the request if from a user permanently banned from these forums under a slightly different ID.

Edit: Unsubscribe button next to "Post to Thread" button.

Edit2: Each time I post to a thread for the first time since the change, I get subscribed. David is being a pain in the proverbial!

David is being a pain in the proverbial!
David and Vitalii seem to be going through a phase of a mass clear-out of dusty and ignored issues - making changes in response to some, simply closing others. This one was mere 30 months old, but I've seen some responses to 7 year old issues. This morning, I had 48 unread emails in my inbox, since bedtime last night. I don't think much thinking has been going on during the process.

I posted in the PR this morning, but it had already been closed - it'll probably join the dusty, ignored, queue. I think I'd better open a new issue, to keep it in view.

In-post edit: I took off the 'subscribe' check before preview, but it's back again. And again, after refreshing the preview.

Post in threads, go to main index, scroll down and unsubscribe from threads. It's getting tedious.

Is this going to work its way through to projects next time they update their server code if not changed back? If so, that would be even more annoying.
Edit: Fortunately my main project has updated relatively recently and is unlikely to do so for a while.

Yes. And to every new project, from day 1.

And another new one they've pulled out of the hat - quote by name. OK, but it's no longer a link - you can no longer follow a convoluted thread back to the originator's original post.

And that was prompted by a special bugfix requested on behalf of CPDN (work allocation for MT tasks). We put in the request, BOINC coded it, LHC dev applied it for testing, and CPDN deployed it. That's the way it should be done.

But this last one is a real doozie. It was suggested, eight and a half years ago, by a single user in #1496. That user has never used GitHub, before or since. I have searched for the username both here and at SETI, and nothing comes up. I've also searched at BOINC Combined Statistics, and he doesn't show up there either (though that search would exclude people who keep their machines anonymous, or haven't permitted data export under GDPR).

In implementing the code in #5715, David has dumbed it down even further, by making it a datestamp instead of timestamp - could be ambiguous. And while I'm typing, it's telling me that I'm "Replying to message 114448", not "Replying to Dave".

I suppose I should report this one too, but since I've had no reaction to my previous one except Vitalii's one-liner, I can't be bothered. Maybe in eight and a half years?

Actually, to be fair - now that I've fully woken up, I can see that "... - in response to Message 114446." is still visible and clickable at the end of the message header - that's good enough. It's just been removed from the body of the message.
