And some of us are old enough to remember the days before satnav exisited. I suspect a higher percentage of people are getting lost on their journeys (both on roads and through life) than they were then.

Sigh, all these tales of roman foot soldier paths that became roads. Sigh.

Sounds like me. I went to pick my dad up from hospital and got lost in the car park. The satnav said "left in 150 yards". I took the 1st left, which was the back entrance for ambulances. I did discover something interesting, which the ambulance drivers backed up - there is no shortage of ambulances or ambulance drivers, they're all queued up to get to the A&E entrances!

An ex-colleague from Derbyshire who normally is good at map reading when he came for an interview just outside Cambridge, had only planned the journey up as far as when he came off the M11 as personnel dept had provided detailed instructions from there. One of the instructions was, "Turn Right at the top of the hill." He continued for several miles not having noticed any hill!

A competent driver driver has no need to remember the whole route.
