I just use direct debit. I'm £3500 behind on payments. Their problem.
B/S
In mainland UK, the £150 was taken off my bill over a year.
Lucky you.
In mainland UK, many councils HAVE NOT deducted rebate from bills.

There are some postcode groups where it is all but impossible to be able to open a bank account or even make a change to an existing direct debit. This is very painful for those living in those areas, the trigger being a small number of miscreants. And then there are people who just don't want a bank account.

As for you being £3500 behind on payments - don't be too cocky as you may find a letter from a court requiring your attendance to resolve the matter. Ignoring such letters can (often does) be taken as an admission of admitting the debt. Each time such letters are ignored the court will add its slice to the debt. Ignore too many of these letters and the organisation you owe the money to will request that the court arranges for officers of the court to attend your premisses and proceed with "enforcement action". At this point its only a very short matter of time before the court officers arrive and start evaluating the contents of your house, they will stop when the value of the goods marked covers the amount of your debt (including all the additional charges incurred). A short while later, unless you make cleared complete payment a van or two will arrive and load up. It gets worse.
If the debt is for energy you will now be placed on a pre-payment meter with any existing agreement is cancelled and the cost of your energy goes up dramatically.

(As a rough guide computers and the like are valued by physical size, so a small one might be valued at £50, a really big one at £100 no matter what's in the box; laptops are valued at a fairly flat figure, it used to be about £50. The only things they can't take are one fridge, one cooker, your beds, one chair per occupant of the house certain clothes.)

It is not you selling, it is the officers of the court placing an official valuation for recovery of the debt. Once a such an evaluation has been made for an item it is no longer yours to sell as it now "belongs" to the court. You are at liberty to sell such an item, but you have to tell the court that you are going to sell that item, the court will now give you a very short period of time to sell that item (it used to be 48 hours). The court will require evidence of the funds realised by the sale, and proof that the transaction actually took place, and it is to be expected that these funds will be used to clear the debt.
Of course you are at liberty to sell any item that the officers of the court didn't value, and use such fund realised in whatever way you want to, however it is recommended that such funds are used to reduce your debt by making a payment to the court.

(I've learned far more than I ever thought I would about how the court debt recovery process works, both in England & Scotland, since I started to volunteer with a UK wide debt support charity. The best advice I can give you, without knowing your exact circumstances, is NEVER ignore a letter from a court, and NEVER miss a payment on your direct debit; as doing either can very rapidly escalate.)

Borrowed from elsewhere on the internet...
The biggest joke on mankind is that computers have started asking humans to prove they are not robots.

Stick with it Peter, and I hope the periodic reviews go well.

(Also I hope that those you are paying don't suddenly cancel your DDM/SO as has happened to one of the families I've been working with. Fortunately this was spotted and the "Why the chuff did you stop the DDM without telling us" letter was sent just before the snotty "You're a month behind and we're taking you to court" letter arrived. As you can imagine much shouting followed and eventually the court papers were cancelled and a small "financial consideration" was given to our client - every penny helps.)

Semi Grumble, semi Glory: I bought a Samsung 4K 50" Crystal Display TV at the Lidl webshop last week Thursday to replace my dying Aldi 4K 43" LED TV.

A TV was given to me on Wednesday by DHL and while its box sat here it dawned on me it was the wrong size! They'd sent me a 43" TV. So I called Lidl, who asked for photographic evidence, which I gave to them immediately and after acknowledging they'd sent me the wrong TV, they first had another company (Dynalogic) pick up the wrong format TV and just moments ago DHL brought me the right size TV.

Next problem I see now is that this beast isn't going to fit on my TV stand, while my PC is sitting next to it... Oh well. I just hope this is the best TV ever! 😂

Glory:
sudo do-release-upgrade -d

All straightforward, yet to discover any quirks from the upgrade. I did notice Firefox is now on version 99.0.1

Grumble: Downloaded six testing tasks. Running one at a time is producing data faster than I can upload it! Total uploads/task will be about 18GB.

Looking forward to later in year when will be upgraded to at least fibre to the box.
