You need to be able to identify yourself, which you cannot do with expired IDs.I don't think it's anything obvious like that. It'll be more to do with the obscure evolution of the British political/civil service mindset. Our passports evolved early, and have carried photographs from the very beginning. Driving licences came much later, and didn't carry photographs until even later - and I don't think they're obligatory even now. I was driving around, perfectly legally, on a plain paper licence until a couple of years ago. (I'd had a new copy printed when I moved to this house thirty years ago, and it would have been valid until my seventieth birthday next year). I changed it when I visited the USA a couple of years ago, in case I felt the urge to hire a car while I was over there. I was able to get a photo-plastic EU-style card by online form-filling: the photograph (a very bad one!) was copied by me giving explicit permission for the driving licence people to access the records held by the passport people. I very much doubt that the passport people destroy the records associated with expired passports: it's more likely that there's an arbitrary rule that says that the photograph on a newly-issued driving licence has to have been taken in the last ten years. I much prefer the system for local officials to issue photo ID for free bus travel (the only other photo ID I hold). Stand still, look into the webcam, thank you. And it's a much better photo! |

Will they keep changing the goal posts to be "fully vaxed" for every possible booster Jab needed? UK Health Secretary: Covid Passes Will Be Cancelled Unless You Get a Booster Jab |

LOL and here I thought you guys got out of the EU, but that's exactly a plan the EU is putting forward to its member states: the COVID pass will only be valid for up to N months after your last shot, else you may not travel, go into cinema's, museums, restaurants, pubs, anything with fun in the description. N is some arbitrary number they will come up with. |

No expiration's so far and no countrywide mandates or rules. I will offer to send some tea your way if you want to throw it in the harbor. |

This isn't good: A perfect timing for hackers. Most of the worlds IT-specialists will be at home during the X-mas holiday, leaving the barn doors open to ransomware attacks, or some other illegal activities. Withdraw your money from your bank accounts yourselves, before someone else does it for you. |

We're going into a full lockdown again. To halt the omicron variant - which is impossible. Anyhoo... it'll be lonely this Christmas. Again. |

Yup, everything to close down, from schools to opera, from non-essential stores to cinema's. Only public transport, the airports, the internet, the borders and the supermarkets stay open. The rest can go bankrupt. Till the 14th of January after which they'll probably turn on 2G, which the stores will grasp with baited breath if it means they can open their doors. Meanwhile "o mikron" (literally meaning little o) isn't killing extra. Or is it? |

isn't killing extra. Or is it?In London, they are estimating 1/3 of NHS staff will not be at work due to the numbers isolating on top of normal winter sickness. People will die because of that even if not from the variant. |

I'm guessing they are all 'fully vaxed' maybe even 'boosted vaxed' over there like they want everyone here in USA. Isolate might mean they aren't all going to the office to hopefully prevent the spread of the Saw in my newsfeed today that two US Senators tested positive for COVID-19. One fully (2x jabs) vaxed and boosted, the other, fully vaxed and both supposedly have been following "propet mask protocol" at the US Capitol. |

This article explains it: Queen guitarist Brian May reveals he is recovering from COVID-19 as Omicron sweeps UK You can be fully jabbed and still get it. But survive. It's really nasty. |

In most cases I know of where NHS staff are isolating its they've been in close contact outside work. In one extreme case they had their mask ripped off and were spat at by someone in the street who was a couple days admitted to hospital. (The spitter has obviously never heard of DNA matching, or that saliva contains DNA, as they are going to face a trial when they are released from hospital.) |

And here in UK the cabinet met for over two hours to think about what needed to be done about the pandemic during which time they decided absolutely nothing! |

Glory. Aside from a small blip (due to WCG anniversary challenge),no noticeable increase in electricity costs in the 3 top ups since last quarter. Topped up yesterday, so will have to wait & see what the next quarter costs. Grumble. Just finished the 90 day check on gas usage & it was obvious. What we normally paid for 4 weeks is now only paying for 3 weeks worth. That works out at a quarterly increase of £20. Not too shabby I suppose. That is until one sees this. BTW, I had to verify e-mail to make this post. No issues. |
