Be interesting to see if I get new one by February when old one expires. The really annoying bit is the amount of things I had to fill in before telling me this.

But why would you need a passport to renew a drivers license ? Do they expect you to drive to a foreign country to buy bread or fill up on petrol ?

I gave up expecting any logic in government departments a long time ago!

You need to be able to identify yourself, which you cannot do with expired IDs.
