Grumble: Whenever, I connect my computer to the interweb using my phone's 4G as it is faster than my bored band, Gmail thinks attempts to sign in from Thunderbird are suspicious. |

Firefox put some middle fingers in my face again, by changing how the browser looks and instead of giving the option to keep the old look and change to the new look, they just changed to the new look with no option to go back to the previous look. Thanks. I love you. Not. |

Thanks. I love you. Not. Had that sort of issue when Fairphone updated the Fairphone2 from Android7 to 9. Most of the changes are now I am used to them an improvement but a month on and I am still having to search for things in the settings structure that have moved. |

Yesterday I installed Windows 10 update 21H1 on my main computer, which - albeit slow - went off without a hitch. So tonight I tried it on my media machine, only for it to run into the "Preparing automatic repairs" loop. None of the options out there worked, really. But then while going into the command prompt, I noticed that the C: drive was my 6TB HDD, while my Windows SSD was drive D: So I rebooted, went into boot options and saw that the first boot option was set to the Windows Boot Manager on my HDD... Switched it the Windows Boot Manager on my SSD, rebooted and it went back into updating Windows. Yay! Only thing was, at each consecutive automatic reboot, did I need to check those boot options. I don't know why Windows Update needed to switch to the HDD all the time, but it's annoying. Anyway, Windows is updated to 21H1 and numerous reboots further I have no problems with it switching drives again. |

Grumble: A 72% difference between Met office app and BBC weather app for the time I will be cycling to work tomorrow is not helpful with torrential rain and thunderstorms being predicted by one. |

Well, they give the same weather warning here, so make that closer to 90%. |

No better here in Dallas/Fort Worth Texas metro the 5 Weather guessers from the TV stations are never completely in sync, usually close on when it will start/end raining but not on how much rain. Then we have the 'official Govt' National Weather Svc (NWS) forecast that usually doesn't jive with any of the other 5. Guess we have to go back to the stone age in forecasting,it might be more reliable. |

Rumours are out there that Win 10 is to be replaced, and those rumours are, at least, partially confirmed by MS Support dates, for Windows 10 Home and Pro, giving a Retirement date of 10/14/2025. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/products/windows-10-home-and-pro |

Rumours are out there that Win 10 is to be replaced. I guess for some it's glory, for others a grumble. For me I classify it's a vulnerability due to it being a Micro$oft product that is similar to COVID-19 in that it keeps morphing a little bit here and there. |

Linus (from LTT) tested the new Windows 11: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odZSCdNTFPw (Hint: it's just Windows 10 with a new UI, new icons and a new Start menu) |

Grumble: For the first time in a couple of years, I lost power. It only lasted for a little bit more than an hour though. One of our local transformers had a safety shutdown, and left about 10000 customers without electricity. Glory: The power came back sooner than I had expected. |

A UPS doesn't keep your computer running when the power's out, it'll just allow you to gracefully shut it down when the power goes out. If you want to keep your computer running through a brown- or blackout, you need a generator and quite a beefy one at that. |

With upping the solar on our house from 1.92KW to just over 4.5KW I was quite tempted by the idea of getting some storage at a cost of about £2.5K but our installer reckons prices are going to drop further. Still needs a couple of other bits of kit to get stuff to run when the mains is out though - probably another £1K to run off batteries when mains is completely out. |

That's still not a UPS and can only be used during daylight hours and preferably when the sun is shining. It doesn't help during the dire hours of rain-, snow-, thunder- and other storms that cause the power to go out in the first place. |
