Scotland is clearly preparing to apply to join the EU as soon as they can get independence. They have also banned flights from England. |

Germany has joined in the no-fly zone. Ferries are now also no longer allowed into Dutch ports. Buh-Bye. |

Ireland and Scotland are thinking about it - Air and ferries only, the roads north are open but forbidden. |

South Africa has a mutated strain as well, affecting mostly younger people. Still, countries are quitting air travel to and from South Africa now as well. https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1374779/covid-strain-latest-new-coronavirus-variant-south-africa-young-adults |

Feeling like a pariah yet? Turkey and France joined the club where English travelers can't go to. Austria, Sweden, Lithuania, Rumanian, Latvia, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic are considering blocking UK travelers. You had to go and be special. ;-) Turkey also blocks travelers from the Netherlands, Denmark and South Africa. |

Feeling like a pariah yet? Turkey and France joined the club where English travelers can't go to. Yes, I have friends in Cambridge at the moment from Germany, Netherlands and Sweden, all wondering about whether they will be able to get back in time for work. |

The new strain has reached Australia from the UK. :( Cases of UK's highly contagious mutant COVID strain detected in returned travellers in Australia |

Bad time to be a Mink... Denmark's 'Zombie Minks' Animal Carcasses to be Dug Up ... International Debacle Denmark's decision to kill off all of their minks, out of fear the animals could spread a mutated version of COVID-19, is coming back to bite them -- because the little bastards are rising out of their graves, and slaughtering them might've been illegal to begin with. |

Well, the other thing China (and most Asian countries) did was close its borders and not allow anyone in, or when you did get in have a mandatory quarantine of 14 days before allowed to travel further. We're too wishy-washy in that. Even during the first wave when our borders were so-called closed? We still had 400-500 asylum seekers walk into the country each week. Even now, we're not to travel anywhere but they can come in unhindered. With whatever they've picked up on their trip over. So we're just asking for this mutation. Which apparently is already here, some people were found to carry it at the start of December, while In Britain it's been found in growing groups since September. Viruses mutate. In a couple of years the vaccines we now have won't work on them anymore. Learn to live with it. There's a new flu in town. Edit: Meanwhile, Denmark and Poland don't allow air travelers from the UK anymore, as do Spain and Portugal. |

One way that is almost certain to stop the transmission of the virus is to go into isolation - either by the borders looking out being shut, or those looking in being shut. A lot of "UK facing" countries have shut their borders to travellers from the UK in the hope that this will stop the onward transmission of the the new virus strain from the UK. BUT, this strain was first detected a couple of months ago, but because there were so few cases nobody really paid any notice to it - virus do change and most of those changes vanish quite rapidly and don't become mainstream. Then it was detected in ever increasing numbers and notice was paid. Now this new mutation is big news, it appears to be a little more benign but much more infective than the "main" variant. |

It is already in Europe, and it is the Europeans that should be worried. Whereas the UK has started its vaccinations, already half a million have received it. But in Europe, Brussels ordered too few doses - much to the fury of German health minister Jens Spahn - and mostly spread its bets on a range of vaccines that will not be available until the middle of the year or until late 2021. And the Oxford vaccine is possibly going to be licensed this month, and if it is and as it its easier to handle, household fridge is adequate for storage, about 10 million Brits will have been vaccinated by the end of February 2021. Good luck, stay safe and buy some more masks. |

Uhm Brussels doesn't tell us which vaccines to use, the individual countries can decide that by themselves. Most countries will start vaccinations before the end of the year, only we in the Netherlands must wait until January. But even then, it'll be August before gross of the people are allowed to get it. So we wait anyway |

I hadn't even considered any panic buying till our prime minister said it wasn't necessary. |

Ah, but some were already panic buying well before the PM said anything. Well there is a big feed-up coming, so some will need to have at least six weeks of food in, plus enough for the whole family to bunker-down for a month or three won't they.... |

Since you seem to have a super market per borough, sometimes even per neighbourhood, why the panic buying? You can't keep it all at home. |

In the big Coles I went to yesterday, all of the toilet paper had disappeared again. Sydney still hasn't been locked down, so there's hope. |
