I removed the hard drive containing BOINC's data directory. Of course BOINC Manager threw an error. So I tried uninstalling it. It would not proceed because the data drive was missing ! (BOINC Manager itself is installed on a different drive)

I had to go into the registry to change the drive letter, just so that I could uninstall. Maybe not something that your more casual users would care to be bothered with ...

(Windows 7 64-bit)

Yes, that's a known problem with the Installshield/msi installer. Did you install the programs (INSTALLDIR) to the secondary drive as well? The uninstaller should be leaving the user information (DATADIR) alone.

No, the programs are installed on the Windows home drive.
Anyway, BOINC is back up & running now ...
