Thanks WK, don't know how I missed that.
I saw Harry Belafonte live at the London Palladium Back in the 70's.
He was one of my favourite singers of the era.

Got a couple of good stories about that show.
I bought 2 tickets well in advance & thank god I did. Every show that week was sold out.
The previous week, I checked the roster & found that I was on a split turn the following week (hated them & often swapped them for nights, except that week).
Swapped them for an early turn as more often than not, they had a Saturday rest day - perfect.
The week of the show, got many strange looks at the depot as I rarely did earlies due to living in North London & Hainault was impossible to get to for 4am.
However, got that covered.

On the Monday, got asked why on early. Told them all that I'm going up town Friday to catch a show. Should have kept my mouth shut.
For the rest of the week, kept getting pestered to see the tickets - I just smiled every time.

Now for the show.
It came time to sing his Day-O song but before he did, asked all of us in the stalls to sing along with the chorus.
Then he looked to the upper floor & said, no need to ask them.
How he got away with that, I don't know, but he did. :-)
Overall, it was a great night out.
Edited for spelling errors.

¡Demasiado caliente! A week on, four cities later, and it's hot, hot, hot. All the time, everywhere. I booked this trip to get some warmth into my bones after what felt like a long, dismal, cold English winter, but I didn't expect an unrelenting, record-breaking, week long heatwave. Nearly 38 degrees C officially yesterday, I've seen 39 on a town centre display, and it goes on into the evening. With nowhere to sit down in the shade. I've retired to an air-conditioned hotel room.

And my tour company have booked me into that hotel, with that restaurant, on that terrace. No need to name it - you've seen the posters. Very chic, very small, very booked solid.

Or, from the residents' terrace, two levels below the restaurant,

Tomorrow, I start the long haul home. I hope it rains in Paris, again.

Never in Richard you'll cool down quickly enough when you get back to the UK as the temperature has barely reached double figures for the last couple of weeks, and isn't expected to get there very soon.

(and all too soon we will be moaning about it being far too hot, us Brits are never satisfied with the weather)

Visit the American Mid-West in summer, if you don't like the weather wait fifteen minutes.

Today is Official (email) Spam Day!

On this day in 1978, the Digital Equipment Corporation sent out the world's first spam email.

They sent out 600 emails and sold computers for $12 million. Unsolicited bulk emails have since become a common scourge of the digital age as spammers attempt to achieve a similar success.

Having done a fresh install of Lunar Lobster as upgrade failed (Not a bad idea to start afresh from time to time) I am now having fun finding all the dependencies to roll my own from fresh. Still at least 7.20.5 worked first time out of the box from the repo.

Currently stuck on "cannot find -lwx_gtk3u_webview-3.2" at the make stage.

Those are for the Manager. If you don't mind running the previous version of the Manager, just make with --disable-manager and just build the client. That is the only thing that really matters.

If you want to build the Manager, I have always had good luck adding these libwebkit libraries.

sudo apt install libwxgtk-webview3.0-gtk3-0v5 libwxgtk-media3.0-gtk3-0v5

As expected, client compiled fine.

sudo apt install libwxgtk-webview3.0-gtk3-0v5 libwxgtk-media3.0-gtk3-0v5
Sadly, they aren't found when I try to install them on 23.04. Tomorrow I shall spend some time trying to track the right ones for the distro down.

Edit: The first one was fine and said I had the latest version, just the second one that is proving elusive.

There is no reason why you can't run an older Manager that works on 23.04. The two BOINC programs are independent of each other. Other than the Manager can't connect to a not running client.

I run an older version 7.16 branch Manager on my current branch client because I like the control features of the older Manager that have been removed in the current branch Manager.

I'm fairly sure you've seen this Software Prerequisites page before, if not here it is:

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/SoftwarePrereqsUnix

The section for wxWidgets says this:

since 7.4.0: wxWidgets 3.0.0
(Configure with the --with-gtk --disable-shared options);
BOINC needs a static library.
If you have an older wxWidgets installed,
uninstall it (make uninstall), then install 3.0.
Make sure you have the 'development' version installed.
On Debian you need the packages: libwxgtk3.0-dev, libwxgtk-webview3.0-dev

Thanks, that is what I am doing following your suggestion. Even if I go back to an older manger however it would be nice to know the correct installation candidate.

What will they think of next to make a "game" of.........
Moderator Mayhem: A Mobile Game To See How Well YOU Can Handle Content Moderation
It’s a browser-based mobile game, and you will learn that you have to make your moderation decisions by swiping left (take down) or right (keep up), and try to align content with the policies of the company (a fictional review site called TrustHive). Of course, users of your site may not like your decisions. They might appeal the decisions, and you might realize you missed some important context (or not!). Your manager might disagree with your decisions, and might not think you’re suited for the job. Your CEO might have his own views on how your moderation is going. So might the media.

Now all running. Maybe I should have read the aptitude manual apt-file find told me what I needed to install. I am a bit surprised no one has ever pointed me in that direction before!

Picked up three lots of bees over the past week. Another lot flew off as I was preparing to collect them. I think it must be something to do with global swarming.
