One Fastly customer triggered internet meltdown

A customer quite legitimately changing their settings had exposed a bug in a software update issued to customers in mid-May, causing "85% of our network to return errors", it said.
Let that be a lesson to us all!

Researchers develop world-first weight loss device

University of Otago and UK researchers have developed a world-first weight-loss device to help fight the global obesity epidemic.

DentalSlim Diet Control is an intra-oral device fitted by a dental professional to the upper and lower back teeth. It uses magnetic devices with unique custom-manufactured locking bolts. It allows the wearer to open their mouths only about 2mm, restricting them to a liquid diet, but it allows free speech and doesn’t restrict breathing.

A friend has just handed in his notice to Microsoft's UK headquarters in Cambridge. One of his reasons is that in a building where even with most working part time from home there will be upwards of 200 people a day working there, he is unable to open any windows!

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/02/chp-tickets-driver-with-apparent-spacex-starlink-dish-on-hood.html

A California Highway Patrol officer pulled over a vehicle on Friday that had a satellite dish bolted to the car’s hood, and the device appeared to be one of SpaceX’s Starlink antennas.

“Sir I stopped you today for that visual obstruction on your hood. Does it not block your view while driving?” CHP of Antelope Valley wrote in a Facebook post about the incident.

CHP added that the motorist replied: “Only when I make right turns.”

Are they using MacOS? Surely there's Windows at every desk.

Actually most of the programmers there run Linux.

Isn't that admitting defeat?

Linux users never wine about da feet.

Everyone ready for the new Time Team?
Yep, they're bringing the band back together. Paid for by Patreons.
Episodes will be released on Patreon and their Youtube channel.

See this episode for who's returning. Nope, thus far not Sir Tony or Phil.
At least subscribe to the channel.

All right, we can stop doing everything, just sit, watch TV/computer, get fat and die. Atlas is here to take over: Boston Dynamics Atlas: Partners in Parkour.

Been playing around with different combinations of tasks, both number of and type. While not unexpected, it doesn't half mess with time estimates for tasks that before I started messing three weeks ago were all quite accurate.

Random Fact:
"Banging your head against a wall burns 150 calories an hour."

MY PERSONAL DISCLAIMER... Please don't try this exercise, you might damage something other than the wall.

The "boob tube" of the 1980's has evolved in to the central information center of the 21st century household...

A 1980 magazine article about the future of TV got it spot on — with a few ridiculous exceptions
"What Can Print Your Plane Tickets, Find the Kids and Beat You at Chess?" asked the headline of a 1980 article in the entertainment magazine Panorama. The answer? Television, of course! Or at least, the television in the far future of the year… 2000!

Writer and consumer electronics expert David Lachenbruch laid out how the technology available at that time was leading to a place where TV would be the center around which most 21st-century activity revolves. And in many ways, he was right.
