For Covid-19 which project is best to join, Rosetta or folding@home (outside of boinc). AMD Radeon or Nvidia GTX? Thanks, Stu |

I checked Rosetta project it's Cpu only. Will do Folding. |

Fah. Preferably Nvidia, because they perform better on spp 16/32 bit, and can run much lower power envelopes, allowing you to run more GPU cores for the same Watts. Rosetta is often out of work. |

...and folding can be very "fussy" about running. It really is your decision where you commit your computers as both are doing work to try to solve the problems around infectious diseases. (And don't forget WCG is doing much the same) |

Why not do both, Rosetta on CPU and FAH on GPU? At the present time though it appears FAH is out of work so you might only have Rosetta work available. FAH has been overwhelmed by so many people signing up. Team USA forum Follow us on Twitter Help us #crunchforcures! |

The gap in performance, between CPU (Rosetta is only CPU), and GPU is very wide! Even a ryzen 9 3900 ($400+ modern 24 thread CPU) can barely keep up with what a 4 year old GTX 1060 can do. Not to mention the RTX line of GPUs are astonishing! While fah is only analyzing the virus, most Corona work is currently done on the world's most powerful supercomputer (IBM). I believe the real results we'll see from that machine. Not from our folding/crunching work. Besides, Corona will be gone in a week or 3, and by then, fah won't even have received the first trigger results, much less analyzed and processed the data. Folding company is ran by one man. Rosetta isn't any better. And seeing they do CPU jobs, will take a lot longer than FAH, even at half precision. Not to discourage you, but we're good with IBM. Focus on all the other projects requiring computing power out there. |

Folding is not a one man operation, it is run in collaboration with quite a large number of laboratories. Pande, or Baker indeed, may be seen as a figure head, in the same way as some might view Trump. What stopped me running FaH was, as I saw it, a greater time dependence, requiring quite a rapid turn around of work units, presumably for an underlying serial approach to their work. That is fair enough if their methods are getting them to where they want to be, I have no trouble with that, it just doesn't suit me. Yes, FAH sticks with their QRB policy (quick return bonus), despite the many attempts to let them know of the unfair disadvantage. For instance, a person can be folding on CPU for 4 years, being the top folder out of many; only to be overtaken by someone owning a Titan RTX in a few days! Another thing this QRB doesn't take into consideration, is that a single RTX 2080 Ti is about as fast as 2x RTX 2060/2060 Supers. That means running 1x 2080Ti vs running 2x 2060/2060s can get the same job done in the same amount of time. Yet the 2080Ti (with Core 22) gets nearly 4 to 4,4M PPD. The 2060 gets between 2,8 to 3M PPD. There certainly is a level of unfairness with this. Same for The Collatz Conjecture. They're doing exactly the same! If they wanted high PPD, they could have just stuck with the standard PPD rating, without bonus. Then a GPU folding, will much more accurately reflect it's PPD score vs a CPU score. I didn't leave FAH for the PPD though, I left, because the attitude of the moderators over there is below terrible! They discourage people from being integrated or a part of it all. They even wrote me, that they could do without my contributions to the forum. Well, they got their 'without my contributions', and more... |

They are not open source, in fact, I don't know what my cpu/gpu calculate In my opinion if someone got huge support from community, there could not be secrets, any not transparency etc Backing to mining crypto in spare time Best |

Pande, or Baker indeed, may be seen as a figure head, in the same way as some might view Trump. I once joked that FAH users could be mining for someone else (fah) and not know about it. I was met with a huge protest from jimbopalmer, then a ban on my post from Bruce 2 minutes later. Makes you wonder why the 2 of them were online at exactly the same moment, and always are in agreement. Same with ToTow, another one of Greg Bowman's alter-personalities. It surprises me that he hasn't gotten mad at himself on the forums yet! |

Corona will be gone in a week or 3. OMG looking back a little over 3 weeks later, that quote certainly has not aged well! 8^ O 1,970,879 confirmed infected Covid-19 - 125,678 deaths - 472,948 recovered = 1,372,253 currently active cases globally (with very low rates of testing) |
