I do wish Windows 10 would stop this auto-updating crap. So I have a machine running Boinc which I never use directly, and I notice one day it's just stopped processing. Luckily I use Boinctasks so these things look obvious when a computer is missing from the list. Why did it stop? A windows update. Because I wasn't at the machine to say yes or no, it assumes I just want to restart, while programs are running!!! Never ever do something to somebody's computer without their permission. Microsoft should have BIG fines for this nonsense. I'd call it breaking and entering, and jail the programmers. My computer, my personal property, my choice, leave it alone! Just block all M$ domains in your router? |

My Win10 stays waiting until I say it can reboot. Just follow https://www.windowscentral.com/how-stop-updates-installing-automatically-windows-10. Option 3 disables that Windows Updates checks for and immediately downloads updates. You will have to press the check for updates button, after that it will automatically install the updates but then again wait for you to press restart. By the way, can we move away from a Windows discussion now in this Android thread? |

Check options 1 and 2. They're for when you want the updates and when to reboot. As for the thread, make a new one and I will move these posts there. Tomorrow. As I am now off to bed. |

I came to this thread to try and find an answer to a question In have about BOINC on Android not read a series of moans about the behaviour of Microsoft. You have no understanding of the etiquette when posting in a q&A thread as opposed to a general discussion thread, so let me illuminate your understanding: Post a question, get the answer, follow-up with supplementary questions and answers. DO NOT dive of into your current pet moan subject. |

You may not be forcing me to read the stuff you post, but when the answer to my question is buried by the junk you post then you are not helping anyone. |

Now please keep the other threads, including your own, a little on topic. A lot of these threads are used as a repository of knowledge for future searches on the same problem. We'd rather everything be as much on topic then as possible. If you find that a problem, nothing that stands in your way to start your own forums elsewhere on the world wide web. |

Simple. Upgrade to Win 10 Professional. (BEST $99 USD spent on Windows is to Upgrade from Home to Pro.) Pro LETS YOU manage Updates to YOUR schedule! I have Updates postponed to their Maximum. One Set is 35 Days from Release, the other is 180 Days from Release. This gives MickeySloth time to FIX things that they SHOULD NOT have initially released without completely checking the Update. (Which they seem to NOT check FREQUENTLY.) [EDIT:] AND, Pro DOES NOT Auto-Restart the OS on the fly. TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos Pluto is still a planet |

This probably won't help Boinc crunching, but whenever away from home, just disconnect cable from router. No updates downloaded let alone installing. :-) If running Win 10 of course. This has been a major problem since it's release, so well known. |

I have a British Telecom Home Hub 6 router which does that by itself every 2 weeks, whether I'm at home or not. :-( |

Ouch. 1 thing I found about Win 10 is that on 1st installing & it detects a network connection it will ask for your Microsoft Account. By disconnecting it will only ask to create local account. I also uncheck activate online, I like it completely installed before that stage. :-) |

The good news is that my router is due to fail again around 11 am Wednesday, while I'am awake - it normally does it at 3 am, when I'm home but not interested. And BT are due to ring on Thursday morning to see how it went. It's incredibly easy to work round, just irritating. |
