After I close BOINC (right click on taskbar icon & choose Exit), my CPU activity is still at 100%. After looking at running Processes (via task manager), I see that 1 of my current BOINC projects are running in the background; depending on what was run when I exited BOINC: hadcm3transum_5.15_windows_intelx86.exe & hadcm3trans_5.15_windows_intelx86.exe (climate prediction) taking 85% - 99% CPU today I also notice that boincmgr.exe & boinc.exe are still in my process list, even though I've closed the program. If I end the project process, it crops back up after a few minutes. If I end both boinc.exe & boincmgr.exe, that seems to kill it. I've recently re-installed BOINC, and usually run it all day. Just recently I've been turning it off during certain times of the day. Any help is appreciated! |

Plus a few extra questions... c) Did you start the Boinc manager manually before this started to happen? d) Did you get an explorer crash before this started to happen? (The desktop and start bar redraws itself unexpectedly) e) Do you have any VPN software? (for example, to connect to an office network) f) Do you get messages in your event log from EventSystem "The COM+ Event System failed to fire the ConnectionLost method on subscription {A8EDB33C-55FF-4D5D-965A-27769CC279AD}- .... The subscriber returned HRESULT 80010105" g) Do you have the ZoneAlarm firewall? h) Do you get this problem soon after a reboot, or only after the system has been running for a while? I don't have any answers, just trying to find if I can see a pattern. |

One additional question from me: i) Does this also happen when you close Boinc Manager with File->Exit? (hopefully we get to an answer before the alphabet runs out ;)) |

Plus a few extra questions... Mike, this is sort of off topic, however... I found that running "Windows XP" screen saver caused item 'f' above to occur every 7 seconds(overflowed my App event log). By switching to the "blank" screen saver or no screensaver I haven't had a COM+ event on my winxp box since. BoincMgnr gui 5.4.11 running climate, seti, lhc, predictor, einstein, ufluids, tanpaku, & rosetta. |

It's set to 'blank' on mine, I may try changing it to 'none'. Thanks for the tip :-) |

a) which Boinc version? Sorry it took a while to respond, I was out for a couple of days. Thank you for your quick responses! a) 5.4.11 b) Installed as Single-User installation c) I don't run BOINC at start-up, rather I run it after I leave for the day or when I'm not going to be doing computer intensive tasks. I run it manually. d) No e) No, only use remote desktop to connect to other machines ... but not via VPN f) No g) No h) I usually let my computer run 2-3 days between reboots, and it looks like this happens at random. I usually let BOINC run most of the time when I'm at work, sometimes I kill it for graphics work, but at a random interval. i) I've not closed via File->Exit, I'll have to try that and let you know. ---- As an update, I've recently attached to a new project today (SETI), and when I right-clicked and chose exit (from taskbar), it closed & stopped all processes. It possibly reset itself? I'll let you know if my problem re-occurs. Thanks again for your help. I knew I should have provided a little more details. Patrick |

Update 12-06: I have been using File -> Exit alternatively with using the R-click exit (from task bar). I have not been experiencing further problems. The only thing I did in between was attach to another project (SETI), and since then I have not been having this problem. Thanks again! |
