Asteroids at home used to run just fine on my pc.
Nvidia RTX 2060 GPUs.

I had upgraded the 2060 to 2070 and 2070 Super GPUs, with a very low, to non-existent overclock; and it ran other projects just fine.
Lately however, I noticed a few hundreds of compute errors, that just error out as soon as the project starts.
Even on the 2070 or 2070 Super without overclock (they usually handle 100-150Mhz GPU overclock just fine, but for Boinc, I usually set it to 25-50Mhz, well below what they should handle).

On the 2060 Asteroids could handle a 65Mhz GPU and 1400Mhz VRAM overclock just fine.

First - do not assume that any tweo cards will handle the same over-clock in the same way, so don't over-clock at the outset, just run pure stock until you are sure that everything is working correctl, then and only then slowly alter the cocks and volts small step by small step and allow a few days at each step to make sure the system is still stable.

And, as this may well be an Asteroids issue, have a good look at their forum and ask questions there - have there been driver issues, has anything changed there?

The program does the same pure stock.
I've tested the GPUs with FAH, and I know to the 5MHZ how far I can overclock them.
So when I started boinc, I lowered the overclock drastically from there (+100Mhz down from +125).
After it failed, I tried even lower, to running it all stock,and it still failed.

Well now is the time to stop thinking it's a BOINC problem, trot over to the Asteroids forum and seek help there - it is obviously an issue with either their application or something you are trying to do with their application.

If possible would you be able to provide a link to some of those tasks showing that your computer run them succesfully with RTX 2060 ? It would be interesting to see. My current understanding was that all RTX cards have been incompatible with Asteroids GPU application.

That forum has been dead for 6 months.

Thanks for the confirmation.
Even if they would work, they would probably only tax the GPU by 25-40%.
I might have mistaken the project with another (I run several projects at a time).

I just ran a few CPU jobs on a ryzen, and so far, all failed (computation error).

I've given up on supporting this project!

Asteroids appears to be in the middle of a bad patch - there are a lot of tasks that are erroring out on all sorts of hardware and with all sorts of apps.

Since Asteroids@home seems to be acting strange these couple of weeks, do try out other astronomy/physics/space -related ones at the meantime. I suggest LHC@home to help out with experimental physicists.

Just found a Notice from Asteroids@Home in my Manager (I have pop-ups turned off), announcing the release of a CUDA 10.2 application.

News release dated 23 March 2020.

The advice and specifications in the news release look sound. I'm giving it a try now.

I have malwarebytes running on my machines and it has just ( last 2 days) started blocking asteroids website because it thinks there is a trojan on the site. Cannot connect to the project directly. has anyone had the problem and/or how do i tell the project directly?

1) "tell the project directly"?

how many tried, it's probably easier to contact General Nakasone "directly" . . .

There have been problems with the "purger down" and "server out of disc space" for weeks now

boincers opened multiple threads about this all over the forums there, but no response at all!

So if this would be a hardware problem, then "whoever" would communicate that and ask for specific donations.

. . . to me it looks like this project has been hacked . . .

{see weird stuff like USERoftheDay with a profile and first day of sign-up with no credit yet,

2 weeks ago there was one without any credit or even a computer registered yet but a profile already and UotD,

isn't there a minimum credit/time requirement for very good reasons? or does every project handle this differently?

It's like someone showing off they can do with this site whatever they want and nobody cares, another "padolf"-clown?}

As we know, telling over the website is useless (and probably unsafe)

So could someone from University-Circles contact the Charles-University of Prag and ask them

if their servers run for science or some mafia/hired internet trolls?

2) I don't know, I just run work units, are there any "minimum safety standards" for boincprojects?

more essentially;

IS the "underfunded-one-man-part-time~project"-thing turning into a security~problem?

Has this been a topic at all?
"Krebs on security"?
anyone?

To get onto the site safely, my guess is the average Linux machine would do it.

and my guess is that linux is completly besides the point;

boincers have been asking all over their forum - no response at all

"we found/have some glitches - servers will be down for maintenance"

easily typed in seconds and not a Mars mission, other projects can do that all the time

then boincers could know if they're even still in charge of their site and

not someone else playing their project like a fiddle . . .

and that's the point,

they're like Yeltsin: nobody knows if they're still in charge

Linux is just an OS and was never designed to fix indecent behaviourhorror
