I recently implemented a "screen blanker" utility to turn off my LCD on my desktop.
I need this because I have BOINC Manager running 24x7 and all night long there is a screen shining out into the darkness,
both wasting power and making me appear I am up all night (nosy neighbors).

The problem is that after about 10 minutes the screen reactivates into life due, I feel, to BOINC Manager activity.

To avoid that, I changed the "Power On" button on my screen to perform a "Turn off display" functionality,
rather than the normal "Shutdown". I then removed the "blanker" utility.

Unfortunately the same thing happens, with the screen reactivating after some time
(the Lock screen comes up).

I have determined it is BOINC Manager (and its activities) causing the problem, because when BOINC Manager is closed down,
(only when I am testing for this problem), the screen stays dark until a mouse movement is detected or a keyboard key is pressed.
It stayed blank all night last night when BOINC was not running.

As soon as BOINC Manager is restarted and the screen is powered off, after 10 minutes or so the screen comes back on.

Is there a setting in BOINC which will bypass screen reactivation? If not, is there a workaround, or perhaps some planning
in the pipelines to address this problem?

Even when BOINC Manager is minimized, it still reactivates the screen after some time.

Does anyone have an answer to this, or is there a wish-list where I can add this request for further attention?

This doesn't happen on my laptop. (BOINC 7.16.3, Ubuntu 19.04) It is worth posting your OS and BOINC version as these can affect the answers.

And also your hardware setup. I too have 'desktop' computers with LCD screens (seven computers, four screens, and a KVM). I've never seen an LCD turn itself back on because of software activity, after the power switch has been turned off.

Especially the hardware setup, and what it comprises. Is it for instance a desktop computer that's on your desk, does it have (a lot of) fans that can add vibration by which the mouse reacts? As then sure, it's BOINC its doing that everything heats up and the fans need to spin up, but the easiest workaround here is to turn the mouse off. Especially laser mice can be very susceptible to the minutest of vibrations.

Turn off = unplug in my case.
