Hi. I posted an idea in seti@home nc about users joining together to support each other with network problems. Pls see my web page Here for my idea on this As these proxies work best when close to the project (so it seems)its hard to find one that serves CA and Suisse and Oxford UK etc well. Indeed too hard....you get one or 2 but not 3 by the looks of it. So apart from the suggestion about buddying for network problems I would also like to suggest a further idea in the ability to have more than proxy for the core client. If one fails say 3 times then the next can be tried and it all cycles round back to the first one. That way multiple projects would be coverable. |

No, I am still at home ... But someone questioned my ability to discuss network problems ... :) Really, I don't mind, but could not resist the opening ... are you limping? One of your legs looks longer to me ... |

No, I am still at home ... Ouch! I had the leg repaired now but it did hurt so I won't play like that again! I did bad there yes? Well not meant that way for sure. But....his problems have gone without doing anything lol! So what do you make of this Level3 thing. Lots of US folk having problems and Cogent at the heart of it all again. Third time they are in the thick of it! Did you see my proxy idea? You wanna try it Paul? Would help a few. I am only talking about taking on a number you are happy with; 2 or 3 users would be good more would be better. Felicitations |

Tigher, I would if I could, but my accounts do not allow that. Thumbfingers I am with system admin stuff I would likely screw it up anyway. My love is data and logical design of relational systems, not that I can do that anymore, but, my attention and interest never went in any other direction. And you did not wound me, I thought it was funny. Well, as funny as I think most things are. so, like many, you probably can't tell when I am kidding... alas ... |

Tigher, OK Roger that no probs. I just hope this takes off across all projects as it could be a real boost when the Internet "plays up". I might petition Dr A to see if he will endorse the idea just to jog a few more folks into action! Anyhow I don't want you all to forget what this post is mainly about. Its a suggestion to the devs that there be multiple proxies allowed within boinc. So if one fails boinc will cycle round a list of others for its next connection attempt. This way projects can have a fair chance of overcoming a US based proxy being inadequate (due to time outs etc) to deal with LHC updates in Europe and vice versa. This would be true for heavily loaded proxies, or broken proxies etc etc. So dev team can you do this? I think it would be very worthwhile. Also Dr A if you see this thread it would be nice if you support my self help community scheme for proxies. A nice headline on the news page for instance. I think this is a worthwhile thing to do and some cross community working that will look GREAT when you next head-off for some grant based funding! They like this kind of stuff you know! |

Can anybody tell me what this error is.......... Some error at WCG, definitely not BOINC-related. And certainly not related to a two-month old thread on Proxy Servers. Suggest you check the WCG boards for help on this one. |
