Wsl2
Maybe a way to abandon Virtualbox for boinc projects.
A more direct access to hw will improve performance

We will service this Linux kernel through Windows updates, which means you will get the latest security fixes and kernel improvements without needing to manage it yourself.

Exactly why I run Linux and use WINE to run BOINC when no Linux work available and the occasional Windows prog.

The vast majority of users use windows.
So, a little and tiny linux vm (for boinc project) is welcome.

But not all use Windows 10 which is the only Windows with WSL included. So if BOINC were to dump VirtualBox in favour of the VM in W10, we'd be telling everyone that older Windows versions are no longer welcome.

Aside from that, even on Linux/MacOS some projects require VirtualBox because they like to send their own Linux version to run their apps on.
