I happen to have an older workstation/server, but it does sport 128GB of DDR2 quad-channel main memory together with dual quad-core xeons and RAID-0 SSD system "disks". Is there any existing or proposed BOINC project whose data-stores are so large and whose read or write access requirements are sufficiently random that the project would benefit from the capacious DRAM of such a platform? Win 10-64 Pro on: Dual Xeon Quad E5472s 3.0GHz w/128GB DDR2 Main Memory + ATI FirePro W5000 GPU; Quad+HT i7-860 2.8GHz 8GB + ATI FirePro V4800 GPU; Quad Q6600-775 2.4GHz 4GB + ATI FirePro V4800 GPU; + 3 laptops |

That is a bit of overkill for anything. The problem is that you don't have so many cores as with the newer CPUs, and so can't use so much memory. But Climate Prediction Network (CPDN) could be your best bet. It is mainly for Windows at this point, and has a somewhat high write-rate. I would use the DRAM to create a ramdisk, or create a large write cache, with all that memory. Plan on at least 1 GB per work unit. Also, Rosetta has work units that can consume 1 GB in working memory, and sometimes 1.5 GB. The write-rate isn't so much though. It works about as well on Windows as on Linux. The new nanoHub has work units of varying size, and some of them have very high write-rates so they really should be put on a ramdisk to protect the SSD. Also, it requires VirtualBox, preferably 5.1.38 at this point rather than a newer version for best compatibility. But the work units can use 2 GB each, or maybe more. They are still in startup, and no so much work is available yet, but there could be a lot later. Also new is BOINC@TACC, which is another VirtualBox project that may use a lot of memory (6 GB per work unit in one report), but there are not that many work units yet either. Good luck. |

Any VBox Project will use a lot of memory. Most use over 1GB per task, some up to 10GB. LHC Cosmology RNA World - If you can get work. |

Beta cpu Quantum Chemistry for windows is really hard to crunch (a lot of ram, a lot of disk space) But are very rare |
