Hello, I received notice of 7.14.2 availability as a WCG release, not a BOINC release. Why the change of ownership (I assume in name only?)? Regards, Donald Vinton |

It's an additional offering, not a replacement. WCG now have their own wrapping paper for delivery, but it's the same client underneath. |

I installed BOINC about a week ago and uninstalled it yesterday. Immediately after the uninstall my screen saver will no longer start. For Windows Good luck. You could try selecting a new screen saver in your preferences. It might have been left set to none after BOINC was uninstalled. |

I installed BOINC about a week ago and uninstalled it yesterday. Immediately after the uninstall my screen saver will no longer start. For Windows I've checked those things. I find left-over stuff in my registry. I'm hoping for some support form the Authors who have left me with this mess. |

See this FAQ. The groups are only made when BOINC was installed as a service. |

I have been away for quite awhile and I was wondering where things are. I do not totally remember how but I was told at the time to come back later and see if I could be of help. I run only Linux and I see no native app is available for that platform. I somehow guessed that I might be able to assist through a Web Browser but I forget the specifics. Question: Is there an app for Linux similar to those for Mac and Win? |

BOINC on Linux is built by the package maintainers, you can see how to get yours at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC#Linux Do know that the 7.14 is not available for Linux (last I checked). |

Hello, Every now and than I'm receiving a message, that a new version (7.4.2) is available for download. But every time I'm clicking the download link, I'm getting an error message: "The page you requested is not available" So what is going on? Is there another possibility to find the new version for download? Zwerius Kriegsman the Netherlands https://geen-energierekening-meer.weebly.com/ |

I'm using Windows 10 Pro.Then you should be getting messages about the availability of v7.14.2, not as you typed. Try going directly to the download page on this website: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php if that url is different from the one your message is directing you to, please tell us what the faulty one is (and exactly where you're seeing it), so that we can investigate further. |

I downloaded the new version directly from your link. After that I installed it. And it opened afterwards. So far so good. But after closing the BOINC manager, I can't start it again. There's now icon to be found for it. And when I go th the Windows Icon in the left bottom corner of the screen, I can see the BOINC manager in the list of programms, but clicking on it, nothing happens. When I reinstall the BOINC-manager, it opens again after installing and seems to be fine. But after closing the manager it seems to be gone again..... How can I start it in a normal way.....????? even double-clicking on boincmgr.exe in C:\Program Files\BOINC doesn't seem to be doing anything Zwerius Kriegsman the Netherlands https://geen-energierekening-meer.weebly.com/ |

OK, we can solve that. First, some background. BOINC consists of two parts: The Manager (boincmgr.exe - which you can see and interact with) - this is for 'command and control' only. I doesn't do any work by itself. The Client (boinc.exe) - this part actually ensures that scientific work is done. When you logon to Windows, both parts should be started automatically. You should be able to see one copy of each in the Task Manager list of active processes. BOINC prevents you starting a second copy of either. This probably explains why double-clicking has no effect. Now the tricky bit. When you click on the red 'X' in the top-right hand corner of the Manager, that doesn't actually stop it running. Instead, it minimises to an icon in the 'notification area' at the bottom-right of the screen, next to the clock. And Windows has made it increasingly difficult to find / see / restore these icons. Windows 10 makes it particularly hard. But you can overcome that. https://winaero.com/blog/always-show-tray-icons-windows-10/ shows you multiple ways. You can show icons for all running programs, or if that's too much for your particular setup, you can turn them on and off individually. Find BOINC (boincmgr.exe) in that list, and turn icon display on for it. That makes life much easier. If you want to restore the full Manager window to see how it's getting on, simply double-click on the small icon in the notification area. |

OK Richard, Thanks. It's running again. Or probably it still was, but I couldn't see it. Zwerius Kriegsman the Netherlands https://geen-energierekening-meer.weebly.com/ |

I'm having problems running GPU-Tasks in a second BOINC-Instance. As I Release Notes 7.14 wrote: Fix GPU detection when run with --detach_console or using $PATHI'm starting my second instance with this command: start "BOINC_CI2" /MIN C:\Programme\BOINC\boinc.exe --redirectio --detach_console --allow_multiple_clients --dir X:\BOINC_DATA\02_9002 --gui_rpc_port 1234 When this instance is started the GPU-Tasks don't start and I can see following line in event-log: Remote desktop in use; disabling GPU tasks So far no Remote Desktop is in use. Now I log on to the machine (via Teamviewer), stop the second instance and start the second instance again with the same command like above and now GPU-Tasks are run So, what is going wrong ? |

Remote desktop in use; disabling GPU tasks HM, I found a solution that works on my personal PC, but I don't know if it is a workaround or a real solution I started my BOINC-Instances with the Task-Scheduler of Win10 (1803 and former Versions) by starting the batch file direct. Now I changed this and start only C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe with parameter /C "PathToMyBatchFile\Batch.bat" and now it works fine |
