Getting this from my windows client running under WINE whenever I try to update with CPDN. A second machine is showing a similar problem. The native Linux client seems to work fine and the machine that has been packed up for months which I opened up to check can connect to WCG and download work without problems. Updating to the7.14.0 has made no difference. Will try switching back to old router when I get a chance. That worked with a different issue. There have been two firmware updates since, one of which I applied today to see if it would fix the problem.

Where are you seeing this error number? it isn't in the list of BOINC codes.

I'm wondering whether it's an http error: 408 REQUEST TIMEOUT

You might need to get Andy, David or Sarah to check the server logs for your IP address.

Thanks,
I was assuming an http error based on the research I have done.I saw something about it but no solution on Seti Fora.

Internet seems slower than usual today which may or may not be relevant. Interestingly, on the machine just out of mothballs, I re-installed the native linux version. That ran the scheduler request fine but no work for it available. On re-starting the Windows version under WINE scheduler request succeeded and it is now downloading two tasks.

Break to try stopping client and restarting it on laptop:

Went for full Monty and stopped manager and client in WINE, started native Linux manager and client, exited them and restarted Windows version and hey presto it works!

As it is now working, I won't bother the team at Oxford with it but will make a note for others who may have the problem in the future.

Edit: It would be nice to understand what the **** was going on!

Stranger and stranger.
This morning, updating not working again but the same technique made no difference this time. zips are still uploading fine. Also if I swap back to old router things work fine. The problem was there before updating the router's firmware to the latest one and still there afterwards. However swapping back to old router everything worked normally. When building work is finally completed I will be able to go back to having wired connections to router and will see what difference that makes.

Old router should be good till sometime next year when they bring fibre to box in road when it will become the bottleneck.
