Hi, I would like to know, how is it with BOINC and support GPU? Folding@Home has already working client, but I like much more BOINC - it real solution - see more: http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-ATI.html

Thnaks for answer : )

I second this, the F@H crew are getting 40X speed increase in processing.

My take on this that the GPU's inherent math inaccuracy would tend to limit it to only a few projects.

I know that Dr. Anderson has approached Microsoft a couple of times about porting Boinc to the XBox. When he first approached them a year ago they were not interested. When last contacted in the last couple of months they said they would think about it.

The FLOP accuracy of the x1800 and later GPU's from ATI has been increased exponentially. The 'inherent math inaccuracy' you speak of does not exist on these cards.

Contact this guy over at ATI, he'll help you. Someone should send this info to Dr. Anderson also.

It has been possible for a project to use the GPU on BOINC for some time now, and there are improvements in the 5.5.x and later clients that make it easier. However I do not think it will ever as simple and transparent as adding a CPU. I would expect that each project will have to do the reseach and GPU specific programing to actually use it.

That is just ignorant BS.
VIDEO GAMES might have some inaccuracies to improve performance. the Shader Units which perform said calculations for the video games are as "accurate" as a CPU. (near perfect accuracy unless over clocked irresponsibly).

Besides which, there are already GPU clients, just not a boinc one.

EDIT: oops, did not see the date there... got here from google and resurrected a 2 year old thread, sorry.

In the mean time, the next upcoming BOINC 6.4 has GPU support. Thus far only for nVidia GPUs; ATI support will follow.

It is still up to the individual projects to make use of the GPU and other computing resources. The 6.4.x client will just make it easier for them and adds some more intelligent scheduling.

BOINC began supporting GPUs 8 months ago, it has been in development most of this time. There is a current boinc client with NVIDIA GPU Support. The only project so far with GPU applications is http://www.gpugrid.net/. Full details on requirements can be found there. More projects will have GPU applications in the near future, at least three have annouced plans to support and begun research or development.
