I agree with you on the point that many project names do not unambiguously tell what the project is doing. But no, you won't have access to exactly the same community resources, because you can't login to any of your project accounts, as SU creates anonymous accounts. |

I agree with you on the point that many project names do not unambiguously tell what the project is doing. But no, you won't have access to exactly the same community resources, because you can't login to any of your project accounts, as SU creates anonymous accounts. So SU crunchers and BOINC crunchers can't communicate. Big Plus! |

you can't login to any of your project accounts, as SU creates anonymous accounts.Ooops. Sorry about the misinformation. So there's no way to report errors to project administrators, or ask for help with a technical problem? Or for the project to tell you what you've achieved? That's a - backwards step, I'd say. And no way to communicate in your native language with the members of your national team? (I did see that teams are disabled at SU) |

It's explained, and discussed, on this message board in the thread NSF funds new model for BOINC. There was a fuller explanation, plus links to the actual NSF funding proposal, behind the 'details' link in the opening post, but unfortunately 'tbd.php' (the working name before Science United was chosen) is another of the files which has gone missing from this website.I re-posted the NSF funding proposal links on another message board, but I've discovered this morning that the actual PDF files are also missing, not just the links to them. Posting an alternative link for my own reference, as much as anything else. Collaborative Research: SI2-SSI: Expanding Volunteer Computing |

Not a very good start Hopefully, a sensible suggestion: Directly after News, a FAQ section. Pretty certain that it will alleviate many questions & problems as seen already. Edit: No I do not intend to join so I can put that suggestion in the relevant board on SU. More work needs to be done before I even consider doing so. |

I would appreciate more transparency visually direct below both options of SU and Boinc indicating the incompatibility between both user/credit system in order to avoid trouble later once a new joiner in SU want to transition to a more self-controlled way of contribution and might join a team. They would need to understand that their previous (anonymous) contributions are “lost” and not be carried over. It should not be hidden in some linked text in a linked text no one is reading (like TOS). Without such transparency there will be more noise in the future and lots bad emotions towards BOINC. The donor/team/credit system is not to be underestimated and a main motivational driver to compensate for the monetary expenses associated with VC. |

I assume there will be a new or updated version of Boinc manager and client because the current versions help dropdown menus point to non-existent urls. Also the same applies to Boinctasks. The menus and help buttons are working again from BOINC Manager (the target url has been replaced). I'm not in a position to test BoincTasks at the moment - could somebody do the honours, please? |

I'm not in a position to test BoincTasks at the moment - could somebody do the honours, please? They all work for me on BoincTasks 1.78 (beta), running under Win7 64-bit. |

Quite interesting the homepage claims there are about thirty BOINC-projects. I'm running fourty-four, and there are more of them. Has this number been there for a longer time, or has anybody cut something off to make BOINC seem less attractive? ^^ And is it possible that Science United has more space on the page than BOINC? - - - - - I don't see the fun in participating anonymously at some projects I don't know anything about. Comparing credits and fighting in challenges is a lot of the fun I'm having around BOINC. The Formula is quite nice in that respect as are Pentathlon and the annually WCG-crunching. In fact, this stuff is what makes me run more computers than I personally need - just for BOINC! Meeting people and discussing BOINC-related and -unrelated topics in forums or real-life is quite nice as well. There are people who take the trouble to register an account on a forum just to ask if something is not ok with a special project, sub-project or work-unit because their computers are acting up. Additionally, some projects will run a lot more efficiently if tweaked properly. So, with SU, will there be automagically created config-files to make machines run safe - and run projects at their best? I doubt it. Well, no advantages for me. Rather a lot of drawbacks. Count me out, please. - - - - - - - - - - Greetings, Jens |

My take is: blockchain is just around the corner. I'm counting for science, points just make me sick. |
