Also, few projects have graphics these days. CPDN used to have graphics on most task types. Quake Catcher Network has graphics which is useful to see if it has detected an accelerometer on a laptop, though perhaps looking at the event log which in the absence of it will tell you it is running in demo mode is quicker. Mind you I haven't used a crt for many years now and tend to have things set to just turn off the screen rather than use a screen saver. |

I believe it was the Windows Fall Creators update that stopped the BOINC screensaver working. I heard that a later update fixed this on some machines. However judging by a few complaints I have seen, Windows 1803 broke it again. As it seems fewer people run the screensaver problems like this take longer to surface. If it was the Windows update that broke it again, unfortunately MS will have to fix it. |

BOINC screen saver does not like a secondary screenBOINC screen saver is OpenGL 1.0 compliant. Multi-monitor support is only available in OpenGL 2.1 and above. You also need hardware that's complaint for that (videocard). The BOINC screen saver has not changed much in all these inter-lying years. The way that Windows (10) starts screen savers has changed a lot. |

You just agree with me that BOINC screensaver is broken. No, I didn't. It works fine and as is on all systems that have one monitor, and on multi-monitor systems it runs just on the primary monitor, just as it is stipulated in the OpenGL 1.0 program code. I'm trying to tell the developer that they need to FIX they screensaver is not acting like a screensaver when it won't load properly all the time and all screensavers are supposed to work on ALL monitors no matter how many you have. I want BOINC to fix it.Great, then find someone out there on the big internet who is capable of writing a new OpenGL screen saver from scratch, and have it run in OpenGL 2.1 or higher format. "The developer" is you, as BOINC is open source, and it's a community driven software development. |

The developer is the person who happened to be around at the time, and he or she developed for the platform and operating system that were around at the time. That operating system has died: so might the developer, for all you or I know. What is needed now is a new developer for the new operating system. It might be you. |

There is of course this to consider: "Microsoft is also looking to remove screen saver support. It is being removed from themes, and will eventually be removed from the Control Panel and Group Policy support." This was part of the "forward planning" at the time of 1709 "Fall Creators Update". It was't due to be in that update but many people reported the Boinc screensaver stopped working after that update. I cannot find a definite time as to when MS will remove support, but I would think that trying to write a new screensaver for Boinc on Windows will be a bit of a waste. I cannot see any of the volunteers developers are likely to want to waste their time. |

Yes. I was the sole programmer for a UK niche product called 'FunderFinder', which enjoyed success in its target market from the early 1990s to the mid 2000s. I wrote it for MSDOS, and converted it for Windows 3.0 when that was released (and maintained it through Windows XP). Although I studied mainframe computing to Diploma standard in the early 1970s, I left the computing field for a completely different career until microcomputers became available: my programming in the desktop market is entirely self-taught. In my retirement, I am slowly learning the open source programming techniques used in BOINC, so that I can make minor contributions to the project. So yes, it can be done - through I haven't reached the screensaver page in the manual. |

Obviously you haven't read the documentation. If you feel you have uncovered a bug then you have the 3 options mentioned at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/ReportBugs. Since the first option doesn't seem to be working out for you consider the second and third options. If none of the options work for you then send the lead developer, David Anderson, your mailing address and he will cheerfully refund your money including shipping and handling. Final option is send me $1000 cash (no cheques, no credit card) and I will get started on a new screensaver for you. Sorry but that's the best I can do for people who were not born with it and don't want to learn it. |
