Hi all Can anyone help me please? I am the founder of the UK BOINC Team and Acoustics@home have used the BOINC WIDE database to auto-create my Team, the UK BOINC Team, and to set up a founder account for the same. BUT: I cannot log in as Acoustics@home have set some other password for my account. I have been in some conversation with Oleg Zaikin about the non-working "forgotten password" function on their server as it still doesn't work and hence I cannot log in to my account. He claims their admin needs to setup an SSL certificate to enable the "forgotten password" link to work. Well, that was over three months ago and checking the Acoustics@home message board, someone else posted a topic about it in October 2017. http://www.acousticsathome.ru/boinc/forum_thread.php?id=29 It still isn't fixed and in the meantime, Acoustics@home has now found it's way into the "Add projects" list in BOINC Manager...which seems strange given that this might allow more people to create new accounts to help their research...and yet they cannot get their BOINC server working correctly? Perhaps someone here who knows someone at Acoustics@home can help them solve this issue? I've tried and I'm getting nowhere....and in the meantime, I've asked one of my team mates to assume the foundership of the Team so that at least we can administer the team profile etc. So, re-stating my first line: Can anyone help? regards Tim Founder, UK BOINC Team |

Team Founder accounts imported via the BOINC Wide Team function contain only the email address and the team information, they don't contain a password. So the first time you want to log in you always have to go through the 'forgot password' link (which for them btw is at http://www.acousticsathome.ru/boinc/get_passwd.php) I just tested the forgot password link and got an email within the same minute. I've also already managed to add a password. This email was sent in response to a request on the Acoustics@home web site. So, make sure you fill in your correct email address, no typos. When mail is sent, check that it doesn't go into your spam folder. If any error messages occur at the forgot password page, tell me about it. |

Hiya Thanks for the kind and prompt reply. I will look more deeply into whether this is a fault on my email server...but I receive emails from other sources...hence why I was wondering if this was an issue at Acoustics@home. regards Tim |

If in doubt, you can always check at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/teams/ if all your information was filled in correctly. |

Hi Yup - all my info is correct... Only issue with my BOINC-WIDE account, (which I've had since 2007) is that the cross-project ID is wrong and doesn't match my CPID that every other project uses... I've now checked my email servers and everything is running fine and as it should be. So, emails (from this project) should be arriving in my Inbox without issue. But they are not. So, maybe Acoustics@home does still have an issue ? I'm tempted to set up a new account with a different email address and once the account is live and can be edited, I'll change the email address...but I suspect that as my "BOINC-WIDE" email address (that Acoustics@home imported) is still attached to that account (that I can't access) so I'll not be able to change email addys, until that original account is deleted (which I can't do, as I cannot access the account). This is really showing up this project as being very "amateurish" in it's ability to administer itself and the project, which is a shame. PS: I have set my BOINC Teams preferences to receive notifications "Immediately, by email" - but I'm not getting any. Plus it only shows I have only ever made ONE posting on this board, and I've made a few more than that. regards Tim |

PS: I have set my BOINC Teams preferences to receive notifications "Immediately, by email" - but I'm not getting any. Now this is interesting...I've just looked at my account again and it now shows the post number as 12 (which is correct now) And now, I don't see a CPID code? AHA !! It now looks like there are TWO accounts for me: One here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/teams/home.php (showing: BOINC Teams member since 26 Jul 2007 and info such as "Stats on your cell phone https://boinc.berkeley.edu/teams/userw.php?id=93" ) And this one here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/home.php (showing: BOINC member since 12 Oct 2006 and no CPID is shown !! ) Curious :-) regards Tim |

We're the BOINC forums, which while they run on the BOINC server haven't got anything to do with other pages on the domain where you can register yourself. Accounts made at the BOINC Wide Teams (https://boinc.berkeley.edu/teams/), Trac Wiki (https://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac), the BOINC User Manual Wiki (https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Main_Page) and the BOINC Alpha site (https://boinc.berkeley.edu/alpha/index.php) are all stored in databases running from those sub-domains. Any posts made with them don't count towards these forums. You can also see that from the addresses, as we're at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/index.php, which is a different sub-domain than BWT at https://boinc.berkeley.edu/teams/ The Cross Project IDentifier (CPID) is only used for and by statistics sites, to track your account and computers across BOINC projects, where your computers are attached and do science. It's not used here, or at any of the BOINC sub-domains. |

Hi Thanks for the explanation... However, having been on the net for more years than I care to remember, I've always regards "sub-domains" to be part of the third-level domain structure: So https://boinc.berkeley.edu is a subdomain of berkeley.edu Whereas: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/teams/ https://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Main_Page Are all subfolders of boinc.berkeley.edu Hence why I was confused.... Maybe what could be considered is: https://boincteams.berkeley.edu/ https://boinctrac.berkeley.edu/ https://boincwiki.berkeley.edu/ So, my 2c of input is that as these are all subdomains (ie third level domains), it would be more obvious that these are totally different. Pedant mode = "OFF" ;-) regards Tim |
