I am running BOINC version 7.6.34 under Mac OS X 10.6.8. Today I tried updating BOINC to version 7.10.2 with the effect that BOINCManager cannot be run anymore. I found the following messages in the system log: BOINCManager[592]: -[wxNSWindow backingScaleFactor]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x100480220 com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[258] ([0x0-0x50050].edu.berkeley.boinc[592]): Exited with exit code: 255 Any ideas what the problem is and how it can be fixed? For now, I reverted to version 7.6.34 in order to run BOINC again. |

I'm more familiar with AppleScriptObjC than with Objective-C itself, but I think the first line's telling you that BOINCManager 7.10.2 tried to use a system API which reads an NSWindow instance's 'backingScaleFactor' property. According to the Xcode documentation, this property was introduced in macOS 10.7, so your 10.6.8 system won't know what it means. NG |

Thank you both for the great bug report! It allowed me to quickly find the cause of the problem, which was due to upgrading to wxWidgets 3.1.0 in this release. The Mac I had been using to test BOINC on OS 10.6 has died, and I am working on getting another Mac set up to dun OS 10.6.8. Once I have done that, I will run some tests to make sure I have solved the problem and that there are no other similar ones. I will post here when I have a new release which fixes this. We currently don't have enough Mac testers for BOINC, and none for OS 10.6. If either of you would be willing to help us test new builds before they are released to the general public, please take a look at this for information on how to become an alpha tester. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get a Mac running OS 10.6.8, so I have not been able to test whether there are any additional problems other than the one you reported. I believe I have fixed the problem with backingScaleFactor, and have posted a test build here. Please give it a try and post here whether it worked. If it fails, please report any new relevant messages in the system log. Charlie Fenton BOINC / SETI@home Macintosh & Windows Programmer |

I have now gotten a Mac running OS 10.6 well enough for testing, and found an additional problem with my earlier test build. I have removed that earlier test build and have posted this updated test build which works for me under OS 10.6. If you have a chance, I would appreciate it if you could try it and confirm whether it works for you. Charlie Fenton BOINC / SETI@home Macintosh & Windows Programmer |

I have removed both test builds, because I have now made Version 7.10.3 available as the recommended version for Macintosh. Charlie Fenton BOINC / SETI@home Macintosh & Windows Programmer |

Thanks, Charlie. Sorry I wasn't able to test the effectiveness of the changes myself. My own Intel Macs are both running later systems. NG |
