Hello All,

Just to follow up on David Andersons post we are excited to be hosting the BOINC workshop this year and hope for a packed agenda showcasing the work that BOINC enables as well as the innovate contributions from the projects, particularly where there are project specific customisations that without sharing in an event such as this would not be reused.

We invite attendees to participate in the organisation of the event through contributions to talks that are science focused on day 1, technically focused on day 2 and can be as technical as the contributor wants for day 3. During the forth day BOINC strategy day we will discuss how we can ensure that we will see BOINC thriving 10 years from now.

So please remember to register here;

https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/showcasing-results-and-developments-in-the-boinc-community-tickets-44841508158?utm_term=eventurl_text

As part of the registration process nearer the event we will contact all attendees to ask about contributions they may wish to make as talks or organisation of sessions on the Hackday.

Regards

David

https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/oerc.ox.ac.uk says it's down for everyone.

I think the CPDN project shares the same underlying hardware, and they've been having problems recently. The project thread CPDN project offline again is likely to get more frequent updates than here.

I hope this meeting will help the sharing of knowledge/experience between projects (and also with boinc developers).

Andy Bowery posted back to me, saying Yes there is a temporarily problem with the machine that hosts it.

Hello All,

Apologies but the Oxford e-Research Centre website (which is independent of the Climateprediction.net infrastructure) has been experiencing an outage over the last two days. I will be posting the direct link to the eventbright site for the event tomorrow as the outage has been significantly longer than was originally foreseen by our institutional IT team.

Regards

David

There is no live feed from the venue this year.

I am planning to attend, and will attempt to make audio recordings of the principal speakers and sessions. Like last year, I will try to upload them as soon as each talk is completed, but that depends on compatible network facilities being available at the venue - I won't know that until I get there tomorrow morning.

Have a great,productive, time guys.

Richard, thanks for the attempt to do audio downloads of the proceedings again this year. Sadly, I'm not going to be able to join you, work and hospitals are getting in the way :-(

Will the event be recorded? Unfortunately I can't attend it, but I'd love to watch the presentations.

Is it possible to ask questions from the speakers via email or any other way? I didn't find any contacts unfortunately.

I'd like to ask the World Community Grid, is there any progress about GPU computing. I was amazed that according to boincstats.com the GPUGRID has made twice as many credit than WCG, even-tho the WCG has 15 times more users. This is brutal and I don't understand why they don't utilize they huge resource base some way. Eg. port existing project, start new project, team up with other projects etc. I know it's not an easy task, but still, GPUGRID, F@H is able to develop GPU base applications continuously.

I also want to ask David Anderson that, don't you think it'd be beneficial for BOINC and Folding@Home if the two projects were merge? Same goals, similar technology, but currently they compete with each other. The development cycle would be much faster if the two teams were working on a single project. Thoughts?

Yes, I'm logged in and recording. First talk has just started: I'll upload talks as soon as I can after each one finishes. There will be a google drive link for downloading.

If anyone wants to ask a question, you can try posting it here and I'll try to ask it at an appropriate moment: it will be hard to ask individual speakers in real time. I'll try to ask the specific questions about WCG and Folding when we get to those speakers.

I'm going to be a cheeky rascal. :-)

With all the cosmetic changes that have been applied, why has one that will clean up in an orderly fashion not been introduced - character limitation for user names & thread titles.

Sorry, my fault - I was still setting up and I missed the introductory words. But I think I got the full body of the main talk.
