The BOINC client is the core client. BOINC consists of three parts: Boinc.exe (the core client), Boinc Manager (the GUI) and Boinc.scr (the screen saver). All the projects you attach to use science applications to crunch with. One project uses its own client: BBC Climate Prediction. And then there is the Grid Republic Account Manager that lets you download its core client, with all the projects you attached to through GR already installed. Other than that, I hope your question is answered. :-) |

I have a confusion with core client and BOINC client. Can any one make it clear There's another description of the parts of BOINC system (apart from the one Jord explained). BOINC consists of three parts: BOINC client, BOINC server (part of BOINC software run on project servers) and science application (provided by individual projects). Actually the part run on project servers is not the same for all the servers as projects have different back-end requirements and this part is then customized to individual projects neeeds. There is (or was) ambiguity in use of term client. Some gave it to client part of BOINC system (the part installed by users on their computers) and some gave it to science applications (as in: client application). There fore name core client was invented to uniquely name client part of BOINC system. In previous versions of BOINC system (versions 3 and 4, nowadays we're running version 5, of which recommended version is 5.4.9 or 5.4.11 - depending on OS you're running) there was essentially only one binary - boinc.exe in windows - which was named core client. Metod ... |

Annie, you can find all that information from this link. The BOINC CVS can be found from this link and how to download it, from here. |

What operating system are you running? Do you need to run it as a whole project for the three of you? Do you need to compile BOINC your self? Read the cookbook links from the first link for ideas. |

We need to compile the BOINC ourself. Then we are going to create a distributed environment to solve a cryptography problem.By the by we are going to try out to propose some new concepts. Jesus Loves you |

OK, as you need Linux for the server. I was sent this link for an easier download of BOINC: http://www.tortoisecvs.org/download.shtml (The site is now back up. ) You need CVS to download BOINC. Then just use the links I gave earlier to download the BOINC server software and uncompiled software. And for the rest, just use the cookbooks. A very good one that people who have set up their own project with is this one by Jacques Fontignie: http://j4cques.blogspot.com/ |
