my win 10 intel nuc was still running 7.6.33 fine then :

updating to :
7.8.2 : not launching boinc.exe : list of project empty when doing "add project"
I lost all my work and projects (no big deal)

then I tried to install back boinc 7.6.33
now I get the list of projects populated but all project say : Failed to add project, please try again later, Click Finish to close. (that after entering password) All projects say that.

installed BOINC NOT as a Service.

tried with AND without virtual box.

tried asteroids, seti, einstein, rosetta, ibercivis.

my other macs and pcs run 7.8.2 perfect.

Alex.

Doubtful you lost all work, but when the client (boinc.exe) doesn't start, BOINC Manager (boincmgr.exe) won't be able to show you any of that.

now I get the list of projects populated but all project say : Failed to add project, please try again later, Click Finish to close. (that after entering password) All projects say that.

Did you uninstall 7.8.2?
Did you change the data directory's path?
When you go with Windows Explorer to C:\Programdata\BOINC, can you tell me what's there?
No need to get a complete list of files, but are there for instance account_*.xml files for the projects you mention?
Did you use an account manager (BAM! or GridRepublic) on the previous installation?

I did uninstall and then tried download and install 7.8.3
Same result, Boinc.exe lanches and quits. Manager then can't do anything.

Message 82285 - Posted: 27 Oct 2017, 13:22:37 UTC - in response to Message 82283.

Check in Windows Event Viewer what possible error message boinc.exe gets when it exits.
Or check in stderrdae.txt in your data directory.
Or check in stdoutdae.txt in your data directory.

You did check that you got the correct BOINC version in?
I mean, if you ran 32bit before, that you now have 32bit again, or if you ran 64bit before that you now have 64bit again?
For instance, Windows does not allow 64bit programs to run from the 32bit C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder, although it may allow them to install there...

I trashed boinc folders in ProgramData, and in user AppData Roaming, then ran the installer to remove the application completely.

Then I installed again.

It does install in Program files (not into Program files (x86) )

I tried to run boinc.exe in console mode (without manager)

created a shortcut "C:\Program Files\BOINC\boinc.exe"

then I launched the manager and did benchmark, success.

then I closed manager and did :

"C:\Program Files\BOINC\boinccmd.exe" --lookup_account http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/someemail somepasswd
status: Success
poll status: operation in progress
poll status: operation in progress
account key: somekeysomekey

"C:\Program Files\BOINC\boinccmd.exe" --project_attach http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ somekeysomekey

Sadly i was unable to give you the first crash output (the cmd window closes when it crashes)

however when I tru and launch boinc.exe again here is what I get before it crashes again :

13-Apr-2018 15:42:14 [---] cc_config.xml not found - using defaults

end. still unable to rn boinc.exe on this new box.

Please open Notepad and add into it:
<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<file_xfer_debug>1</file_xfer_debug>
<http_debug>1</http_debug>
</log_flags>
</cc_config>

Name this cc_config.xml, type All Files (*.*), format ANSI, and save it into your BOINC data directory C:\Programdata\BOINC\

Now start BOINC and have it contact a project (which should initiate the crash). .
After it has crashed, go to C:\Programdata\BOINC and open stdoutdae.txt.
Scroll to the bottom and copy the whole section from Starting BOINC client version 7.8.3 for windows_x86_64 for the date and time you did this, all the way to the end, then past that into an answer here.

Message 85866 - Posted: 13 Apr 2018, 14:25:41 UTC - in response to Message 85865.

I deleted all again, uninstalled and tried the 7.6.33 32bits version without virtual box.

It looks like it works now.

I attached the to the project, it downloaded work, and is processing.
