Hello,
this morning i put this message in the boinc_dev email list:

Hello all,
I think that and interesting feature on boinc would be that you can
choose a "main" project and "secondary" ones for crunching when no WU
were available for the "main" one.
This will be usefull for people who want to crunch for one project
mainly but don't want to see their computer idle if there's no WU.
So, if boinc detects that there is no WU for the main project, it
tries to download WU for the secondary and so on.
The actuall behavior of boinc (with resource share) doesn't permit
that because if we have more than one project it crunch for all of it.
For exemple, a guy than have 3 boxes and want to crunch one project in
each one specifically (depending on the project's and boxes'
requeriments). He does the assignment but one day realize that one of
them is out of work. Although he did the assignments for an specific
reasson, he prefers to crunch anything rather than have one box idle.
To prevent this, he tries to attach a new project but he realize when
the first projects has new WU that the box its crunching both
projects. He doesn't want this. He want to crunch for ther first one
and only crunch for the other(s) if the first is out of work.

Best regards.

Martin give me this answer:

This is already possible by the user setting the resource shares. See:
http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=Backup_Project

However, this is not immediately "obvious".

Have 'tick-box' options to simplify resource setting? (And 'advanced' to
get to set the resource shares by numbers?)

and this other:

Just had a quick look on http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ and...

Is there a developers accepted wish list or features list?

The only wish lists appear to be only those in the forums. What is the
developers' "todo" list?

That would clear up repeated "wish" items getting rediscussed...

Well, I'm not very good in English and I don't fully understand the second response, but I think he is saying me that i must ask in this forum rathen than in the dev email list.
And that's what I'm doing now...
Let's go, I look at the link he provide and the backup project doesn't fulfill the "requeriments" i am talking about. Yes, with a backup project you can achive it in one box but... what about if you want a project to be the "main" in a box and "secondary" in another? You can't do that with de share parameter because it is project-wide parameter. If you supply a 0,1 or 0,001 value to set as the backup project, it will be used for all the boxes not only the one you want to.

I think that this is possible with the "project_priority" tag available in truxoft optimized client. Only one more thing: in this optimized client, if the priority project works, the backup project(s) will not be started even if their work units are close to the deadline or over it. I think that would be better to finish the initiated ones instead of leave them to cross the deadline.

That's all. Thanks and regards.
