The BOINC Workshop 2017 will be held 6-8 Sept in Paris. Everyone with a significant involvement in BOINC is welcome to attend. Thanks to Marius Millea and the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris for hosting, and to Laurence Field and David Wallom for organizing.

Do you planned some kind of "interaction" (participant, papers, lines of code) with Boinc FAST (in Russia)??
I think that 2 conference so close may be a important moment for boinc environment

The European Union's Parliament recently voted to impose a visa requirement on American Citizens who travel to Europe. The resolution urged the European Union Commission to require visas of American visiting Europe. Although the Visa requirement is not yet valid, it can become a law at any time. So those of you who are interested in this workshop need to have this in perspective.

https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/go/schengen-fact-sheet.html

I believe in total reciprocity... don't think USA requires visa for stay duration up to 3 months for citizens of the EU Schengen area either.

The US requires a visa for EU citizens of Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Poland and Romania which are all part of the Schengen area.

This I believe is the main reason behind the the law change.

Marius Millea tells me that a two way stream is available tomorrow morning. At least, he hopes it's two way, if not, it's one way but that way people can still hear it.

For video, on Mac/Windows use the http link and install the client that it prompts you to install.
On Linux use http://www.ekiga.org/ and the h323 address.
On Android use the http link as well, and it should redirect you to an App.

Details:
Connection for a single terminal (PC, Mac, tablet, smartphone) use http://desktop.visio.renater.fr/scopia?ID=727190***3141&autojoin

Apologies to all for the breakdown in the workshop feed. We're going to try and jury-rig something during the first coffee break, and get the main feed working after lunch.

Just get us audio, forget about the video. Audio is enough and not as taxing as trying to stream 720p or 1080p video as well!

Just jury-rigged a wired connection, should be better now. Will try for video after lunch.

Edit - it turns out the port needed for the conferencing software I was using is blocked by the official networks in the building, both wired and WiFi. So we're out of ideas until lunch...

Sorry about that.

I'm going to try uploading raw audio recordings of the talks shortly after they complete. Please report if the quality is good enough to make this worth while.

Files will appear on Google Drive - David's opening talk is there already. Kevin Reed, speaking now, will be next.

Link updated to show all files - Kevin's talk is there now. Breaking for lunch.

Thanks for trying. Will keep workshop feed open in case something materialises later, and/or TS3 feed.

Thx for this will be listening with interest.

Hoped to be there but finances prohibited it.

This is a way to at least hear and hopefully see what's happening, will there be a live video feed later?

Would help if, I assume Richard on his laptop, could type more gently.
I was trying ;-)

I've collected an external keyboard from my hotel during the break, and I've put that on a different table - should be better for the next talk.

Edit - the beginning of David's talk is poor quality because I was sitting towards the back. I moved to the front part way through, and the others should be clearer from the start. Can't do anything about the cough, thought. Christian is just starting.

We're not all back from lunch yet, and Marius is at the front trying to get help - but no signs of life yet :-( I'll keep you posted. He knows you're asking.

Christian Beer's talk is complete and uploaded. This one is long (75 minutes) and technical - may not be for casual listeners.

Tecchies appeared just as we were heading upstairs for coffee - and nicked my network cable. Quick bit of furniture re-arranging later, I have another. Could you test video again now and report back, please? They say it's working (though you'll see an empty room and a blank screen - we're on break).
