A little history on their majesties is not amiss I feel. Royal fortune stays secret: 'The Queen has been forced into paying taxes and the last thing she wants to do is to give the impression to the people that there is a tax regime for her and another one for the ordinary punter' (dated: Friday 12 February 1993) |

I remember the introduction of IR35, except for a very few high profile cases I'm not convinced that it brought in more than it cost to implement and run. I'm also convinced that many inside the HMRC don't understand IR35 and its many tweaks, the latest came out recently. IMO it is a perceived problem by HMRC, and because it isn't getting in more taxes then it needs to be tweaked, which only raises more cases where HMRC gets it wrong and on appeal they lose >95% of the time. Resulting in more lost money for the general coffers. |

I agree, it is all in the public domain and it's old news that it started 25 years ago. But of course it was the Independent article that said "The Queen has been forced into paying taxes". The Royal family were willing to volunteer to pay taxes THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO.I will let him know you are coming, Mr S. :-))) |

It's best to have IR35 than not, but I agree, it's not very effective. But on the other hand all these people using one-man-one-emloyee companies may save on tax, But the drawbacks are, no sick pay, no holiday pay, no pension, late for wok, don't get paid. No 35 years for State pension. Buy health insurance, there are policies that cover one-man-bands. Plan to only work x weeks/year. Buy private pension, can be done monthly/yearly/lump sum. I worked from home and visits to clients, so never late, always got paid. Pay full NI, it is an option, depending how you are set up. Listed company (pay both employer and employee contributions) or self employed. The last begging letter I had from Newcastle basically said you haven't paid for x months, if you don't pay, you might not get full pension, the minimum period is 30 years, you have contributed 49 years 8 months. |

Firstly you are correct it is 30 qualifying years not 35, I was wrong. But that of course is this new pension. Us older ones had to pay for 44 years, and get a smaller pension. Of course it is an option to pay full stamp, if it costs in. If I ever get a stupid letter from Newcastle I'll copy it to the Mail, they would likely name & shame them. Nothing like public humiliation to get action, as Ms Patel found out. I've dug the letter out and like you I am on the old pension basic + SERPS, and does give the new 30 years ruling. An older letter sent when I took a 2 month holiday, stated the original 44 year ruling. The 44 year ruling was why I back paid the NI contributions when I returned to the UK as the 8 year period of non-payment would have decreased the State pension considerably. |

All the while you choose to make these kind of statements I will remind you of thisSo with your "proud upstanding" behaviour, I will remind you of this: 1: In this country, you have the right to face your accuser. 2: You are innocent until proven guilty |

Hope this cop ... https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/13/us/politics/roy-moore-alabama-senate.html WASHINGTON — An Alabama woman accused Roy S. Moore on Monday of sexually assaulting her when she was 16, the fifth and most brutal charge leveled against the Republican Senate candidate. Senate Republicans are now openly discussing not seating him or expelling him if he wins the Dec. 12 special election. |

That was a lot of news in one go. They've also popped Robert Mugabe under house arrest in a not-coup-military-takeover apparently. It would be nice if that made things better wouldn't it? There was also something very iffy about a largish quantity of ISIL fighters being given safe passage out of Raqqa towards Turkey. Turkey's not happy at all. Whether the rumours of a US airlift of ISIL leaders late August are true I don't know either. They weren't detainees apparently. Maybe someone thinks they'll be useful somewhere else, who knows? Or maybe it's disinformation. I might have to look into it to stop my head niggling suspicions at me. But not today. Today is escort mother-in-law to hospital to see my other half. She doesn't believe in visiting hours because they clash with her imbibe-a-vat-of-wine-before-bedtime time. Yes. But the saddest news of yesterday was the famine in Yemen :( Will there be any children left when Saudi Arabia is finished there? |

Several years ago now I worked with someone whose family had left Zimbabwe after Mugabe started to get a bit carried away, they were not white but still felt threatened. Some of the things she told me were pretty bad and I have kept my eye on him ever since, I was surprised he has lasted so long. I just hope this can be sorted without bloodshed. Zimbabwe needs a strong leader now not a 93 year old or his wife!. |

The wife sounds fairly strong, but not in a good way - I wouldn't trust her to use her strength for the good of the rest of the country. |

Sajid Javid the Communities Secretary is out of touch with his brief. He says Mr.Javid is more correct than you want to admit. Those boomers sucked on the government t*t$ so hard and long they created inflation so that house they bought for next to nothing they suddenly have a house worth 50 times what they paid for it and they didn't make it 50 times bigger and keep it brand spanking new. They made money worthless. The next generation has to pay 50 times more to live but the oligarch isn't paying 50 times as much! Oh and the government has to pay 50 times more to do education too. |

Where Mr Sajid Javid may have erred, is in focussing on one area of responsibility only - for the plight in which the UK's younger generation find themselves. Where those contributing to the letter's page could be said to be mistaken, is in thinking they are disagreeing with the Communities Secretary. ;-) It is my humble view they are not. They have achieved what he did not, however - a firmer foundation on which to point more vehemently at those he named and shamed, in a manner of speaking, and ask how, and which generation, can be held responsible for the very valid points they themselves have noted, and benefitted from. ;-) But that is merely one view of many. Infinite factors and many fingers in pies affect every generation's legacy to future generations. Wishing everyone here a happy outrage. |
