To which, add two other factors.

1) Different varieties of potato crop at different times of the year - real food is seasonal. And some varieties - notably those sold as "new" potatoes - make lousy chips.

2) Real British chips were fried in beef dripping, but many fast-food joints have switched to vegetable oils. Opinions vary about the quality of the resulting product...

That reminds me about the statistic that 40% of all single day sickness was on a Monday or Friday.....

Years ago I met the late Screaming Lord Such at a hustings - "Wo' a nu'er".

As ever they lost their deposit.
However they did get one member onto a council, who was instantly chucked out of the party, for being voted into public office, which was against their rules!" The same person stood again at the next election as an independent, and got voted in because they had been such an effective representative of their constituents!

Is this a scam or what? Detox through a foot patch?? At those prices? Medical evidence?

Foot patch

Seen something similar to that advertised here in the USA recently and I suspect it has... No substantiated evidence of any medical benefit other than making your bank account balance a bit lighter and your credit card balance a bit heavier.

I am the beneficiary of an agreement struck between a previous owner of my house and the pre-1974 local authority: for the princely sum of 50 pence per year, the current successor to that local authority guarantees my right to light through a window installed in to 1960s

Judging by the pictures, that would not stand up in a court of law.
It will if they take photos of other installations. Those boxes are more than double the size of their standard installations & secondly, none of the standard installations have 2 boxes together.

So you'd have no qualms if said boxes were installed in front of your property?

For that sort of construction there would have been a public inquiry, and every affected household would have been invited to comment. Sadly if you don't respond to the invitations to attend of contribute you almost certainly loose your rights to light or convenience. It may be that their neighbours did, and got the fugly box moved along the street a little bit - it has happened before when someone hasn't responded....

Of course that neighbour may have been motivated by stopping a "professional curtain flapper" from observing their comings and goings.

That may be true, but why are the boxes that high & why 2 together? Most of their installations in this region are half that height & one will rarely see 2 together.

Holy cow, not the best of links on Proust.
In the context of the point that was being made - it was an unfortunate choice.

...creating a name for himself in high society as a brilliant conversationalist with an ear for speech patterns that enabled him to mimic others with devastating ease and accuracy. His verve, dark features, pale complexion, and elegant taste fascinated the hosts of the smart Parisian set that he eagerly courted. Although he soon earned the reputation of a snob and social climber, Proust's intimate friends saw him as generous, extremely intelligent, capable of serious thinking, and as an excellent intellectual companion. But he irritated through his eagerness to please, his intensity of emotion, and his indecisiveness.

Struggling a bit on its relevance
You make a good point, SC. To submit its relevance in this instance may lie in a broader arena than one French novelist, long deceased makes for an uneasy read.

but no denying you gotta hand it to wiki when it comes to one dimension only.
One of the better write-ups on wiki:-

Wikipedia is nonsense. Always was and will be. Peer reviewed could simply mean one idiot has checked another. Not being corrected/contradicted does not equate to being true. Wikipedia has neither the processes nor access to actual domain specific expertise that would even begin to promote factual accuracy. Truth is not a matter of acclamation, eminence, repetition, group agreement or disagreement, nor mode of presentation. As a common repository of the world's knowledge it is an epic fail. It has deceived many people into the delusion of relevance and co-opts by manipulating emotion devoid of intellect. It is the modern day archetype of form replacing substance. At best it might be accidentally true in any given instance.

@syffy c
You ever checked those links out for yourself? Then their authorship? That'll be the reason wiki is a no-go for students.
#22 was a bit difficult to ascertain. More so than "is well documented" suggested it would be. The lack of apostrophes in what could be read before the page froze, wasn't the best impression ever, and alarmed the anti-virus before crashing the browser. It then wouldn't take no for an answer retrieving what I frankly wasn't too keen on seeing again - so I had to spend some time persuading task manager to kill everything that kept popping up. All of which has left me unable to comment. As you can see.

@Hairy but human
As "authoritative" sources, their lack of research and fact-checking integrity in this instance, makes correcting such errors virtually if not actually impossible
I was most surprised to find out in wiki that I made my debut on the planet floating some fifty-four miles south of Cape Agulhas. It was the only place I could be, working from what they said about a mine that had steadfastly remained north of where I was born until wiki placed it an awful long way south of that.

It's hardly any wonder there's been some oceanic confusion in the past

;)

what wiki knows about what it thinks it knew but didn't might be worth a read ;) not sure how good their sources are and whether I can be bothered chasing my tail on any of them, but I might...

It's very nice to know you're still around and about the place HBH :)

Verifying sources is an integral part of what I do. Credibility is essential, Syffy C. :-)
