I'm trying to upgrade a notebook that has 4.45 installed on it, up to 5.4.11.

The installer starts off fine, and I get through the licence and installation type (service) and I specify the user/pass to create the service with - but then a problem occurs.

Boinc (or MS installer??) wants access to a file that no longer exists on the system:

C:\\WINNT\\Downloaded Installations\\{5B7B52CF-9DBD-43B0-B04E-A4B989284EB7}\\

Perhaps this directory existed on my old laptop - but it doesnt exist now. Win2K on my old laptop was installed on C:\\WINNT\\. WinXP on my new laptop is installed on C:\\Windows\\

Small different - but important.

Trying to run the 4.45 installer to 'repair' the current 4.45 install runs into the same problem (actually, that was the problem that promted me to want to upgrade to 5.4.11).

How can I get past this, and get my Boinc install on this system working again? Is there a registry key I can change to allow the installer to find the .msi file properly?

Thanks for the info - for anyone else in a similar situation, I found another solution as well.

When Boinc (or the installer) asks for the .msi that it believes is on an unavailable network share, point it to the version that is installed locally in c:\\windows\\Downloaded Installations\\...\\..

All it wants is that boinc.msi file -- once it finds it, it reinstalls 4.45 fine.

A more simple and elegant solution for this problem is here:
