Perhaps because we need the US more than they need us. Certainly after brexit. So like any good politician she is keeping her options open. As to your description, if it fits 100% of men then how do we know who you are referring to I am just taking a guess. |

Ban them beards for security reasons: Mears, a major UK contractor does so for Health and Security reasons. |

I find that wearing a full beard gets me a comradely smile of recognition from both the local Sikh bus-driver and the staff of the Bengal Tiffin takeaway. |

I used to get free poppadoms at another takeaway while I waited, but they sold out to different owners and the quality went right down - I stopped going there. |

Sad: London Bridge attack. |

Potential act of terrorism says PM. Really, got to love their analytical abilities. An attack similar to the Westminster Bridge one with the addition of extra men. What are the odds that 3 mentally unbalanced individuals decided to do the same thing at the same time with 10/12" knives? Westminster Bridge - Severe Manchester Arena - Critical London Bridge - Severe ??? - Critical Edit: Just been declared terrorist incidents. |

I do not believe it mattered what level the the terrorist threat limit was set at, the police/MI5 would have to have had these three on the radar and be actively watching them to stop this sort of attack. The only real defence against this sort of attack is to stop and search vehicles as the enter or leave London and all major cites. Not really feasible, yet. Interesting that the terrorists apparently had fake bombs strapped on, why? Well in my opinion two reasons: 1 to spread fear and panic. 2 to make sure the police killed them, if the police see what appears to be a terrorist running around the streets of London with a bomb strapped to his chest they are hardly going to call out "stop police" Also if they shoot and injure a possible suicide bomber then they are could just set their bomb off and kill and injure many more. No, as I said after the last attack, it has to be shoot to kill and they knew this so they wanted "suicide by cop". I personally cannot conceive what drives people to do this, it is so alien to our way of thinking that I am still sure we cannot beat them in the normal way. |

This does not help. Nice soundbite Theresa But the best comment is: - "The last thing we need is people over-reacting or taking out their frustrations on people in other communities or in their own communities." |

This does not help. As we live in a fairly civilised western society what would you expect the Prime Minister to say. "Things need to change" I agree 100% with the sentiment. Lets see how they change. |

Here's another 'hindsight is wonderful' thought. According to both Theresa May and the chief of police, there were three active killers in this latest incident, and all three had been shot dead by police within eight minutes. I haven't heard even a hint that terrorist activity continued after those eight minutes. But I am hearing that residents, including tourists staying in local hotels, were evacuated in a hurry - some in nightclothes or underwear, and without their mobile phones - and are only now being allowed to return to their accommodation. And thus regain the ability to tell their families that they are safe. In the UK, we have a habit of going into lock-down mode after any incident, while 'procedures are followed'. Roads remain closed for hours after accidents, for example. But a Belgian tourist just interviewed on TV said 'that's what the terrorists want - to disrupt normal life'. Aren't police tactics doing that for them? Obviously, opening the area back up too soon would have been disastrous if, say, a time-bomb had been left in the crashed van. But wouldn't it be better to move to a policy of rapid risk assessment and return to normal life where possible, rather than the current 'total control'? |

But a Belgian tourist just interviewed on TV said 'that's what the terrorists want - to disrupt normal life'. Aren't police tactics doing that for them? Which was much of the essence of the message I posted after the Manchester bomb adding "That is why we will never win! Which immediately drew outrage and a call for me to be removed as a moderator at SETI And unless the "changes" are so radical that many will find them unpalatable, then yes I still believe we will never win. Sometimes it's best to keep one's mouth shut rather than say anything. Which would then cause you to say "Nice silence from the Prime Minister" What ever someone in power does or does not do will lead to criticism. Are you are suggesting that Theresa May just spoke for the soundbites and publicity and doesn't believe a word she said. |

Are you are suggesting that Theresa May just spoke for the soundbites and publicity and doesn't believe a word she said. Yes I am! What "happened" to that indomitable British Spirit that endured the Blitz & the IRA bombing campaign? As for never winning, I agreed with you. We cannot. However there is a way which Britain already had but successive governments has eroded & which if still in place today, would not have prevented what happened, but maybe would have shown up on the "radar" by said beat officers who knew everybody in their community. £441 million is to be sent to Pakistan this year in overseas aid. That's 14,700 coppers on the beat. As we're of the same generation, you cannot disagree that while growing up, the coppers on the beat knew the community they patrolled. A case in point is your home town - Croydon. Look at the turnout shown to that community police officer on his retirement & the respect he was shown. IIRC, he did 31 years. |

As we're of the same generation, you cannot disagree that while growing up, the coppers on the beat knew the community they patrolled. Sorry but I can and do disagree. Croydon in the 50's and 60's was a fast expanding suburb of London, with high rise blocks and the infamous New Addington estate on the outskirts. It was not a place I would have said had good community/police relations. Growing up I was taught to respect the police, but I hardly ever saw one. Places like the better end of Shirley, Purley, South Croydon and Coulsdon perhaps had good community police, not central or west Croydon First community office I ever spoke to was in 2015 when working in the community garden. I do agree that it would have been a good way to help spot the likely terrorists but not now. In many places the communities have lost faith and trust in the police. |

Okay you disagree, but I was basing my opinion on what I grew up with. Most of East & North London did have great community coppers but we did not have faith in the police as an organisation as seen by the corruption of those times. That did not prevent the community bobbies being good coppers. It's much the same now as many good coppers are leaving the service due to too much PC or bulls**t & I don't blame them. As for the police organisations themselves, for the normal rank & file, the problems arose with the higher ups & the Home Office. Hmmm, didn't the Prime Minster serve for 7 years as Home Secretary... ...now why isn't that a surprise. |
