Bernie's got a good point but would of 4t they would of told Jord about the change before it happend .

In a way he may have done, if I had kept my mind at those things. He has been saying for a while now that he wanted to add the Bootstrap CMS to the forums to make them more accessible on mobile devices, and allow for easier skinning and changing of the front-end and forums.

There was a thread about it on github (Issue #1704) the past couple of days with David saying he was going to actively follow up on that and add it to the collective. So that should've been a warning for me that it was coming.

Threats about going over David's head to someone else up the tree isn't going to help, because:
1. David is the father of BOINC.
2. He's the chairman of the BOINC Governance group.

So, complaints? Take it up with him, exactly as he requested in the development list email:

The Seti is down thread is perhaps the wrong place to have a sensible discussion about the boinc forum changes.

Please don't confuse BootstrapCMS with the Bootstrap HTML, CSS, JS framework (http://getbootstrap.com/). The latter thing is what get's implemented to BOINC. It is NOT a CMS (Content Management System!). The thing that is simply called the Bootstrap framework (developed by Twitter) is just a collection of CSS classes that can be used in the BOINC webcode to give it a specific look. It has predefined classes that make it easier to build websites that scale very well on different devices and the programmer does not need to worry about that stuff.

At first it will feel different but give David some time to fix the things that you only see in a production system. One could argue that a little more advance notice would have been good but ask yourself what would have changed? You would still have complained that you want the old thing back. Bugs would still need to be fixed that could not be seen on a testsystem and so forth.

As Jord already said: David is the quasi "owner" of this forum and he can do as he pleases with it.

Ah, thanks for that clarification, Christian. I wasn't sure about the thing I linked to earlier, as it sounded 'different', but as I didn't see the other link in my searches, I assumed... :)

And you're right of course, it's not a CMS. Don't know why that stuck with me. My mind wanders elsewhere these days.

By the way, things look very different on my LED TV, when compared to on my 32" monitor, for instance all the quoted text is the same size and without bold face, as the rest of the text is. Both use Firefox, both with the option on to let the pages decide what font and markup to use. Text still scrolls off the side of the screen though, even on full-screen browser on a 50" TV.

One item, the BOINC link in the upper left isn't to the home page, but to the forum home. As just an inch below is the "message boards:" link ...

Generally - columns if they have a natural maximum width should not grow past that width when the page is widened. For example Threads/Posts/Last Post on a forum list page and the Author column when a thread is opened.

B) The Separator rows Volunteers and Software development and testing should be in a different font or highlighted differently.

When Posting a message, the Post reply button and Send Message button in the "Sent Private Message" page is showing strange behaviour in Firefox and Chrome.

Hover over the button and the lower half of the button highlights (others buttons do not)

Press and hold the button for a few seconds and release - whites out the button.

I, too, am on FF and am seeing what AgentB is seeing when posting a message, or responding/quoting someone's message. In quoting this message from AgentB; when I hover over "Post Reply", I get a blue underline exactly underneath the words "Post Reply". However; in hovering over "Preview" no blue underline occurs.

I don't seem to see a "Left-Right" Scrolling issue; BUT, I'm viewing on a Wide Screen 21" HP 2009m LED/LCD Monitor. Columns HAVE BEEN widened viewing on this monitor. (Also, as an aside, I'm running MAC OS X El Capitan 10.11.4; but, I expect that the same still holds for Win and Linux Users.)

Within a thread the column for the name etc is too wide so reduces available width for the content.
On the "index" page the lack of dividers just makes it look messy and hard too read on a small screen.

The thread title cleared, but all of the posts in the thread are now Unread.

Ahh, no. Make that more complicated.

The thread I was looking at has several pages, the latest of which was Unread.
On checking earlier pages, they were read. And going back to the current page, it's now read as well.

That's normal behaviour on all BOINC forums, as far as I know. What the "Mark all threads read" function does is clear all markers for unread threads, it does not change the cookie for where you were in any of the threads on the forums.

Another note....
The page responds correctly and stays formatted properly when hitting it with a 'control +' to increase the font size.
Now it becomes much easier on the eyes.

After a little getting used to, I am not disliking it as I did upon first glance.
Fix the quote behavior and we might have a runner here.
That, and perhaps cut down on the space used on the left for the user info.

Ditto on the quote font size, though ...

Also, I think this was already noted, but in reading PMs text goes way off the screen instead of wrapping. Also has same quoted text font size issue.
