The screen saver doesn't work - it comes on for less than a second, and then dumps back to the desktop.

Also, I got a new (to me anyway)error:
8/19/2006 7:49:50 AM|SETI@home|Task 16ap06ab.9232.9905.884652.3.95_3 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
8/19/2006 7:49:50 AM|SETI@home|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.

This one reset the task to the beginning, wasting about 6 hrs. of CPU time.

Any suggestions?

Don't use the screen saver...

Or make sure you have updated:
- Your videocard drivers.
- Your motherboard chipset drivers.
- Your DirectX version.

Hi. Lightsttn1 here. BOINC still has bugs, OH BOY still bugs. Yep BOINC 5.4.11 still has bugs. BOINC 5.4.11 doesn't allow SETI to run if ROSETTA is downloaded. Yep! That's true. I installed a new Graphics Adaptor program for my graphics card. This one looks stable. I was able to play my computer games with no lag in the play. BOINC how ever did the same as I expected. SETI@Home was running and as before. As soon as ROSETTA was downloaded. Guess what happened? ROSETTA preempted the ROSETTA. Ker-POW!!! as before ROSETTA stopped SETI in it's tracks as it has done each time I ran BOINC with both project files installed. YOU DIDN'T FIX BOINC. It shouldn't have taken control of the interface. The SETI should have been allowed to finish, as you set the SETI project files to be too long for running on an older system without getting itself HANGED by other projects. At least ROSETTA will stop SETI from working, and give no time for it at all except when download is in progress of a new ROSETTA project file. I'm copying the messages to hopefully give you what you need to get you to fix BOINC to work as it should in this case. I have the projects to work for an hour, and switch. After another hour the projects should switch again. PLEASE NOTE! The projects were delayed during the computer start-up as the system is over committed during start-up: Please don't try to tell me that my computer is causing the problem. Your BOINC still has bugs in it's works. WHEN WILL YOU FIX-IT, OR ARE YOU UNABLE TO FIX IT. If I could do programming. Which I never learned to do. I could fix the problem, and I wouldn't make any excuses. Saying the users computer is at fault. THE BUCK NEEDS TO STOP HERE. PLEASE FIX BOINC TO RUN THE WAY IT SHOULD, AND HAVE IT BE ABLE TO SEE WHEN IT IS ON AN OLDER COMPUTER, AND BE ABLE TO ADJUST ACCORDINGLY. THANK YOU INADVANCE FOR STOPPING THE BUCK PASSING AND FINALLY FIXING BOINC FOR THE BENIFIT OF ALL WHO IT IS USED BY. I AM A VOLUNTEER. i VOLUNTEER MY COMPUTER TIME. BUT DON'T WANT TO THROUGH THE PROJECT FILES AWAY BECAUSE BOINC CAN'T SEE IN FRONT OF IT'E FACE. THANK YOU. Or better yet, read up on the Work Scheduler and the CPU scheduler.

If I could do programming. Which I never learned to do. I could fix the problem, and I wouldn't make any excuses. Saying the users computer is at fault.

In your case, the USER is at fault. Learn how BOINC does things. BOINC is doing exactly what you are telling it to do and then some.

You run only Seti and it works fine. Then as soon as Rosetta downloads a result, BOINC recalculates the outcome of both projects and sees it can't finish Rosetta in time before its deadline. So it says you computer is overcommitted, stops the download option for all projects and crunches Rosetta. Uploads that one, Seti continues.

After a while round-robin (non-overcommittance) crunching is started, but oh my Rosetta downloads another (probably short result with a very short deadline). And the whole process starts all over again.

So... is in that case BOINC at fault, or are you?
I know it's easy to point at BOINC and say it is at fault. Yet if you don't know how things work in BOINC, then how can you be sure? Why don't you crunch another project with even longer deadlines (CPDN for instance), to see what that does, instead of Rosetta?

As the others have said, you should learn how Boinc works.

I run 12 projects on my slow computer. Boinc shuffle the various project work in and out without my interfering with it. It never run out of work, never returns work late and in the long run follows my project share allocations exactly even when a project is down for a while it makes up for it.
