I've got Boinc running on my laptop, and configured to suspend tasks while the laptop is running on battery power. If I start charging my laptop and my battery is low and Boinc is NOT running, then it takes less than an hour to recharge the battery; however, if I start charging my laptop and my battery is low and Boinc DOES start running again (the manager's current behavior), then it may take a few hours to charge back up, which also puts a lot of strain on the charger. I'd like an option under "When to Suspend" that says something along the lines of "Suspend while battery charge is less than [X] %". This would let the laptop recharge like normal, if set to a relatively high percentage. I find myself frequently having to manually suspend the tasks to let the laptop recharge at a reasonable rate. |

Yes, if BOINC is running whilst on charger, part of that charger juice goes directly towards crunching, so taking longer to recharge fully, albeit, just had a long power out yesterday, fully drained the 8 core laptop by the time it came back and the recharge still took only 2.5 hours when mains came back. Anyway, the % load feature already exists in the Android client. Maybe this is code portable into Windows/*nux clients, or it's not, it's all dependent on how 'uniform' the battery level measurement is in laptops. If it works through a standard Windows API, it could, but it's the 65,000 USD question that would need first answering. Coelum Non Animum Mutant, Qui Trans Mare Currunt |
