The most common cause of this is that the installation directory was different to your original installation directory. It would be good if the installer could pick up the location of any existing boinc installation.

If my guess is right, uninstall the new version, then reinstall it, entering the original location instead. This is a common problem with the BBC/CCE project, since it's default installation location is different to the standard installation location.

yep thats what happened mike
mine is set to d;drive (38 gig hard drive all to itself )(greedy boinc lol)
had to do something with the spare drive
thanks for that
still wont locate them though will reset each project as it finishes work to clean up the folders
means some one else will have to crunch them again (only small w/u though so no major harm done)

Then, what is the correct procedure to upgrade the BBC Climate project when running on Linux? The boinc_5.4.9_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh script does not allow one to specify a directory. It has "BOINC" hardcoded.

That's the problem with the BBC Client, it installs to a different directory to that of the normal BOINC client

Ok. So we agree on the problem. What is the solution?

Can I just:

kill the running engine
mv bbcclimate BOINC
./boinc_5.4.9_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh

Will this cause any processing to be lost?

If you shut down BOINC gently and correctly, the science apps shouldn't be affected.
Then you could try un-installing BOINC, copying the folders to the standard location, and re-installing BOINC.

The original location would then be a backup, and, if it doesn't work, you could go back to using the BBC version of BOINC.
The newer, 'normal', versions don't really have any advantage for most people, unless they are running multi-project.
