Gridcoin Finance apparently has CRASHED & reverted back to 55+ days ago.

About 12 hours ago the server ran out of disk space according to the error messages in my Boinc Manager.

My account created within the last weeks is COMPLETELY GONE:
No account with email address xxx@yyy exists. Please go back and try again.
Also can NOT report or request new works as upload/download are DISABLED.

The forums at Gridcoin most recent posting is from 55+ days ago: High used Disk Space

It is quite apparent to me that this project is run by an amateur who is in way over his head. I encourage everyone to drop this project immediately, as the admin can't even be bothered to provide any sort of explanation. This project does not deserve any support from the BOINC community and should be dropped from everyone's list of active projects.

Cross post from Rob:

Alright guys,

Had some really bad luck already on the finance boinc server - the error this morning was something like disk cache failing or something to that effect; after trying to check the drives after rebooting, we lost one of the drives already. Tried to restore and lost the whole server. Had to restore from backup from 11-1. In light of this Im going to start making more frequent backups of the server.

So, anyone who joined before 11-1, please join the project again.

I tried to restore the RAC and Credits using some math, but if you feel your account still has the wrong rac, let me know what the username is and the last RAC and Ill verify it in the NN and set it back to where it was after you re-join.

Sorry for the inconvenience - hopefully this is a sign that finance over the long term will be successful since we are having so many go live problems.

It has been off-line for about 15 Hours now.
According to BoincStats.com "offline since 2016-01-28 01:31:15 UTC"
Ping & tracert show no server response.

Well it has resurfaced WITH ACCOUNT STILL THERE... BUT NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY IT WAS OFF-LINE FOR 4+ DAYS.

Also did NOT receive credit for the two tasks I finally was able to upload (late b/c server was unreachable). Posted in the forums there hoping for some answer(s) but I doubt we will get any answer at all.

Appears Gridcoin Finance has CRASHED AGAIN at least 6+ hours ago...
Tasks will not upload or download and when you go to the home page you get the following message:
"Unable to connect to database - please try again later"
.

----
Edit...
p.s.
There never was ANY response to the previous outage from the sites admin(s).

The task received over the last 2 weeks or so are using just about 1 full core for the first 30 to 60 minutes then SLOWLY slack off to around 10% use of a core until completed. Definitely NOT Non-Compute-Intensive ANYMORE.

I'm seeing the same thing in regards to CPU usage. People need to be warned about the behavior. Alpha/Beta/whatever you want to call the project, people need to be aware that it does not fully behave like it should by a large margin.

They also don't abide by the BOINC data directory. It appears they have hard coded the location to put their apps. This too has been reported multiple times in the forums and has not been addressed.

I have seen the project use up to 25GB of disk space as well. When you combine that staggering possibility with not abiding by the designated BOINC directory, its effects are compounded.

Doc Katie knows about it and is looking at it right now so give her time to fix it as she has been sick . I can look at the forum and she posted only a few hour ago .

This is an incredibly toxic reaction to an alpha BOINC project experiencing issues. How about instead of demanding that no one support the project instead offer support? Do you react this way to other BOINC projects experiencing issues? (Because many projects experience issues or just disappear and let their domains get hijacked by malware distributors).

The lead developer of the finance project is incredibly busy (full time job, working on the development of Gridcoin, studying to acquire certifications related to the finance project & having a personal life).

Could he reply to calls for an update on what's going on? Sure, but there's a very active thread on cryptocointalk where you could get answers from others quicker: https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/11357-gridcoin-finance-project/

Should he put up with users going psycho on the alpha project's message board? No.

I could understand calls to de-whitelist the project from the gridcoin whitelist due to technical issues and relative alpha status, but most users freaking out are non-gridcoin users lol..

Should an admin address the volunteers he/she requests? - Yes
Does it take months to drop in and post a quick message? - No
Is he/she too busy to do a job he/she created? - Probably shouldn't have taken on something the person doesn't have time to take on.
Do volunteers have rights to gripe, complain, and whine about a project they should probably just detach from? - Sure
Should the admin be held in high regards without earning such status? - Not in my and many other users opinions.
Does this reflect poorly on GridCoin? - Probably because there is a huge culture difference between the BOINC community and the crypto community.
Do you think coming to the BOINC community and saying if you want better answers to delve into some other forum that you have to track down rather than use the one provided by the project you are trying to support is going to get you very far? - I highly doubt it
Can projects truthfully expect volunteers to allow project amdins to hide behind the "my project is alpha/beta" title forever even if/when they have production data? - Sure but they will find the users calling them out as idiots when they do.

This can go on and on. It doesn't take months to drop in and say hello to those that gave you a free ride. Show the respect and it tends to come back to you. This project has done little to respect its donors.
